In January 2003, the SENIOR MARKETING EXPO was held in Orlando, FL. While catching up on my reading on the way down, I run across an AARP article that printed its results from a study regarding today’s average caregiver that read: “Today’s caregivers of loved ones, do not like to make more than four decisions regarding the loved ones they are caring for, over their lifetime.” I already knew from previous AARP studies that the ones serving in the role of caregiver, age four times (4x) faster than the ones they are caring for. Coupled with the latest survey, supports the effect of stress in the lives of that individual. On the last day, I attended the last main session where senior adults were gathered for a round table discussion group and answer questions from the audience. Individuals flooded the aisle ways to have a chance to have their questions responded to by the panel. The audience of several hundred made up of the likes of insurance agents, financial planners, attorneys and accountants. A very intriguing question asked by an attorney: “Do you prefer to work with a person in a general practice or with a specialist?” A lady in her mid 70's answer was truly profound and changed my life: “I want to work with a Specialist who already has all the other specialist on their team that I may need the rest of my life so I only have to make one decision.” At that moment the light bulb went on above my head and I excused myself out of the auditorium after hearing this response needing to hear nothing further in fear I would lose my train of thought. I knew my this was to become my future pathway in business so I grabbed an early flight back to Nashville and eagerly penciled my first draft of a business plan that has developed into what PHS is today… A firm that met all the needs of every family from all aspects of aging under one roof and surmised into one sentence would be: “Providing 100% of the Services that affect the 50+ population who are dealing with aging issues, “including but not limited to” all Specialty areas of Health, Social Transitions, Legal and Financial & Estate matters” The Joint-Venture Team approach is a Win-Win for everyone involved.
