🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

This month, we honor the fighters, survivors, and those we've lost to breast cancer. It's also a time to raise awareness and empower each other with knowledge that can save lives.

💗 Early detection is key — and one of the simplest ways to stay proactive is through regular self-breast exams. While they don’t replace mammograms or clinical exams, they help you become familiar with your body and notice changes early.

🔍 How to Perform a Breast Self-Exam (Takes just a few minutes!):

1️⃣ In the Shower
Use the pads of your three middle fingers to feel your entire breast and armpit area. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Look for lumps, thickening, or knots.

2️⃣ In Front of a Mirror
With arms at your sides, then raised overhead, look for changes in shape, contour, swelling, dimpling, or ni**le changes.

3️⃣ Lying Down
Place a pillow under one shoulder and your hand behind your head. Use the opposite hand to examine the breast in circular motions. Don’t forget to check under the armpit and gently squeeze the ni**le for discharge.

📅 When to Do It
If you menstruate: a few days after your period ends
If post-menopausal: pick the same day each month (e.g., the 1st or 15th)

⚠️ What to Watch For
New lumps or thickened areas
Skin changes (dimpling, puckering, redness)
Ni**le discharge or inversion
Pain or tenderness that’s new

If you notice anything unusual, don’t wait — contact your healthcare provider.

💬 Let’s spread awareness and encourage our loved ones to take charge of their breast health. Share this post to remind others that early detection saves lives.

Short bursts of purposeful activity may be the best way to get in the habit of exercising, research suggests
NBC News (10/7, Sullivan) reports that research suggests “short bursts of purposeful activity –– such as walking around the block or lifting small weights –– may be the best way to get in the habit of exercising.” Investigators “found that in adults younger than 65, these small acts of physical activity significantly improved cardiorespiratory fitness.” Meanwhile, “for older adults –– those 65 and older –– exercise snacks significantly improved muscular endurance.” Individuals “were also extremely likely to adhere to these small bouts of exercise –– about 91% of adults and 83% of older adults routinely engaged in them.” The findings were published in BMJ Sports Medicine.

Community Care Physicians as a company is dedicated to all if their patients, but this month is focusing on Women’s Health to spread information about ovarian cancer. If you ever have concerns or questions, your first step should be contacting your gynecologist or primary care. Early dedication can save lives.

Ovarian cancer is often called a "silent killer" because early signs are subtle and easy to overlook. Here are six crucial things every woman should know:

1. No Early Warning Signs: Symptoms like bloating, pelvic pain, and frequent urination can be mistaken for less serious issues.
2. Age & Family History Matter: Women over 50 or with a family history are at higher risk.
3. Pap Smears Don't Detect It: Regular pap smears don't screen for ovarian cancer.
4. Most Ovarian Cysts Aren't Cancerous: Many cysts are benign, but monitoring is essential.
5. Fallopian Tube Removal Can Help: For those at high risk, removing the fallopian tubes may reduce cancer risk.
6. Advanced Stages Are Treatable: Even if diagnosed late, treatment options are available.
