Shirley Ann Mobley
January 5, 1945 - April 18, 2026

Shirley Ann Mobley, our sweet Gigi, age 81, passed on Saturday, April 18, 2026 to join our Heavenly Father. Today she is rejoicing in the streets of heaven with her love, with our Buddy, Lemuel Mobley that had preceded her in death, along with her parents William and Mary Frances D***s and sisters, Linda Singleton, Joan Padilla, Mary Gibson and Billie Phipps.

She is survived by her two daughters Teresa (Mark) Beard and Tina (Kevin) Stewart, her grandchildren Kasey (William) Brown, Kayli (James) Adams, and Joshua (Hannah) Jones, along with her precious great grandchildren, Weston, Wyatt, Madilynn and Walker.

Our Gigi was one of a kind. She was beautiful, kind, loving and strong. From the time her daughters were young she loved to keep kids. If you grew up in the seventies and eighties in Brundidge Alabama there was a chance she kept you too. Once her grandchildren were born they got all her love and time, from sitting in the school lines everyday, to the Crowes drive thru for "snacks" after school. Her devotion to her family was unmatched and words cannot describe how much she will be missed not just by her family but to anyone that knew her. Gigi would want to be remembered today for her love for her Lord. She would want us to rejoice knowing she is Home.

"Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." -Luke 23:43

Paths

Paths in life are long and slow;
Some don’t even grow.
Watching things go by so right,
Only to see life not go how we like.
Picking what direction to take,
Only for it to be the one that breaks.
Some are full of tricks.
Who would want that to stick?
All you did see
Some was as thick as fog.
We learned how to count
The weeds that were choices we didn’t need.
How did you water your life
To be a path some you wouldn’t want to cover?
For it was too hard to believe.
Many years, words, and stuff
Made you think you were tough.
When that path started to shine,
You smiled wide.
But, look, there came clouds
For Wrong tried to take over
Like weeds in a field of clover.
Then out came the Son;
All you needed was to say yes
And He gave you the very best.
For now you are at rest.

Love,

Karen and Your Loving Family

Obituary for Betty Nichols Spann
June 18, 1931 – April 15, 2026

On Wednesday, April 15, Betty Spann completed her earthly journey and is now at HOME with her Lord! Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Troy, with Dr. Ross Lankford officiating, on Saturday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:30 in the Parlor of the church. Dillard Funeral Home of Troy will be directing. A private family graveside gathering will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park later that afternoon.

Betty was born in Thomasville, Georgia, to JD and Adah Nichols. They moved back to Alabama where Betty attended schools in Geneva and Enterprise. The family would settle in Troy where she graduated from Troy High School in 1949. She enrolled in Troy State Teachers College and graduated in 1952 with a BS in Elementary Education. She would teach for a short time in Eufaula before coming back to Troy and would teach in the Troy City Schools until her retirement in 1991.

Betty would meet the love of her life, Jerry, while in college. They married on December 26, 1954, at First Baptist Church, Troy and would move to Georgia where Jerry served in the army at Ft. Benning. They moved back to Troy in 1956 for Jerry to serve on staff at First Baptist Church.

She taught sixth grade for most of her 30+ years’ tenure in Troy, including the attempt to teach English to her three sons! She would sacrifice family trips during summers to go back to school to earn a Masters of Elementary Education in 1966. She was a charter member of the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and later an active member of the retired teachers’ group in Troy. She was also a member of the Troy Woman’s Club, Nineteenth Century Study Club, and perhaps her longest and most active affiliation being her membership with the Troy Music Study Club with husband Jerry. She enjoyed traveling, including trips to organ conventions in Canada.

Betty and Jerry were involved in their son’s pursuits; attending numerous sporting events (even when they weren’t that interested in sports), piano recitals, church activities, and band trips. No matter how busy she was with school and her community activities, family was most important. As an only child she was very devoted to her parents who lived in Troy, to her extended family in Enterprise, and to Jerry’s family. She was very involved in working on genealogy from both sides of the family.

Betty’s legacy would be centered in her faith in Jesus Christ and her devotion to Him through her service at First Baptist Church in Troy. She taught Sunday School, served as Church Training Director, was a WMU officer, and a faithful member of the church choir for fifty years. In her later years she was known for her devotion to the church’s Prayer Room Ministry. She faithfully wrote Prayer Grams to church members and others on the prayer list until a short time before her home-going. She was a member of Colley Sunday School class and would continue her participation with the class at home through FaceTime and then watch the service of First Baptist Church via livestream, taking detailed notes from the pastor’s sermon.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jerry, and her parents, JD and Adah Helms Nichols of Troy. She is survived by her three sons, Geoffrey and wife Danni of Troy and their daughters Ashton Spann and Hannah Barnes (Bart); Richard and wife Kyung of Salem, OR and their children John (Samantha), Joshua, and Rachel; and Jonathan and wife Megan of Pell City, AL and their children Zachary (Fran) and Keighan (Charles Foor); sister-in-law, Judy Spann Bruce (Helms), and Marie Spann Reynolds (Jerry) of Andalusia. There are also six great-grandchildren; Jones, John David, and Jasper, children of Zachary and Fran; Callen and Juniper Lou, children of John and Samantha; and Ivey, daughter of Hannah and Bart. She also has a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins who were very special in her life.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Spann, Wiley Spann, Jason Bruce, Zachary Spann, John Spann, and Joshua Spann. Honorary pallbearers will be the Colley Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

Betty’s family would like to express heart felt appreciation to the following: The late Lise Orum and Quioness “Queen” Thomas for their care and friendship; the staff of Enhabit Hospice of Troy for their in-home care and attention at Troy Health and Rehab; and the staff of Troy Health and Rehab during her short stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Troy.
