As Women's History month closes, it is important to recognize and celebrate women who have committed their lives to helping others. With that said, we're honored to share the announcement of a newly established recognition program, The Katharine Graham Excellence Award.

We are thankful for the legacy of Katharine Graham, the former CEO of The Washington Post Company, now known as Graham Holdings. Among her multitude of accomplishments, Katharine was first woman to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company. In honor of Katharine’s leadership and pioneering spirit, beginning in Q2, all employees are eligible to make and receive quarterly nominations for this award, including all clinical and support roles. We'll continue to share further updates for this award for you to make your nominations.

Together, we are proud to celebrate women employees who care every day for our patients and families – often while enduring the challenges of caring for their own families. Continue celebrating and recognizing your fellow women colleagues, friends, and family; we know they deserve it.

As part of International Women's Day, we celebrate all the mighty women we have been lucky enough to know and admire. We specifically want to remember Katharine Graham.

Mother of Donald E. Graham, Chairman of the Board at Graham Holdings, our parent company, Katharine was one of the first female publishers of an American newspaper and the first-ever female CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

Newspaper publisher Katharine Graham, mother of Donald E. Graham, Chairman of the Board at Graham Holdings, our parent company, has been honored with a stamp by the U.S. Postal Service as part of its Distinguished Americans series. Previous honorees include author James A. Michener, aviator C. Alfred “Chief” Anderson, athlete Wilma Rudolph and medical scientist Jonas Salk.
