Anthony Randolph Edwards

Anthony Randolph Edwards entered eternal rest, five days before his 70th birthday, on February 15, 2026. Anthony a.k.a. Randy was the youngest child of Annie Mae Edwards and Jasper Edwards Sr. Born in New Haven, CT on February 20, 1956, Randy became the 12th addition to the Edwards family.

Randy enjoyed playing chess and checker tournaments with his brothers. After graduating Richard C. Lee High School, Randy moved to Richmond, California. Over the years he worked as an Armed Security Guard and pursued crafting his music during his free time.

Known for his strong talent, Randy played multiple instruments and composed signature pieces. As a self-taught musician, Randy learned to compose music, eventually introducing his unique style to the world. This creative energy enabled his music to be chosen for use by recording artists and two motion pictures.

Randy was playful, kindhearted, full of energy, and most importantly serious about his music. He left memorable impressions on everyone who crossed paths with him. His smile was comforting and his presence was engaging.

He is survived by daughter Nitajsha Edwards and brothers Charlie Edwards, Larry Cannon Edwards, and Salim Saafir a.k.a. Jesse.

He was predeceased by siblings Lillian T. Howard, Annie Faye Edwards, Jasper Edwards Jr., Gladys Edwards, Susan Stuckey, Serena M. Spruill, Leonard Paul Edwards, and Horace Ray Edwards a.k.a. Buddy; as well as nephews Brian K. Howard and Lee Stuckey Jr. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members including siblings Benjamin, Dawn, and David Knight.

Randy will be sorely missed and remembered for his vibrant, musical spirit, playful nature, and astounding resilience to life's challenges.

A Memorial and Repast service will be held on March 14, 2026, from 2pm-7pm: Grand Events, 121 Grand Avenue New Haven, CT 06513 (Please use Atwater Street entrance)

Joan Victoria Brill Hughes

August 28, 1935 – February 17, 2026

She’s home now dancing with her beloved husband. No two people were more in love with each other than Joan and Gene Hughes. They showed us all how to love. She missed him every day for 17 years and wanted nothing more than to go to him. Godspeed Joan. She had the love of a large family, her children Eugene, Nancy, Christopher, Michael, Brian and Katrina, Tracy, Lisa, and Rebecca and 13 grandchildren Chris, Sam, Tate, Victoria, Curtis, Sean, Alix, Jett, Ethan, Jayne, Gavin, Will, Joe and recently her first great-grandchild, Palmer. Joan leaves behind her sister Connee and brother Donald. Love is all around in the memories each of us hold close. Sitting at the bar with her at the National Hotel on Block Island singing with the piano player. She was happy. She knew how to talk to the bullfrogs we were trying to catch at night in a lake. She was fun. Surfrider Beach Club every day during the summer and ice cream after at the DQ at the foot of the Oceanic Bridge in Red Bank. We loved the beach and she loved chocolate ice cream. Love, Joan postcards sent to her golf buddy son. She appreciated us. A squirrel costume with a real mink tail for a kindergarten play. She made us feel special. Bouffant hair in the early 70’s. She was beautiful. A wedding day tradition is fulfilled with a simple act. She let us sparkle. A Den Mother, a Football mom. Art critic. Sideline cheerleader for everything we all did. She was love. Services will be held at a later date. To send a condolence, please visit www.redgatehennessy.com

Christopher Rene Benitez

Christopher Rene Benitez, 43, passed away on February 11, 2026, in New Haven, Connecticut. Born on January 6, 1983, in Connecticut, he was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. Chris lived a life rooted in dedication to his family, his work, and the passions that brought him joy.

Chris was the eldest of three brothers and a sister, the first among them to graduate from Platt Technical High School in Milford. There, he pursued a trade in Electronics, a field that would become both his profession and lifelong career. In 2005, he began working at Sonitek in Milford, where he remained for two decades. His commitment to his craft and loyalty to his workplace were hallmarks of his professional life.

Beyond his career, Chris was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. He found great joy in spending time with those closest to him. Whether it was sharing laughter with his brothers Jeff and Gary Benitez and his sister Victoria Benitez or creating cherished memories with his nieces Gabriela and Savannah and nephew Noah Benitez, Chris embraced every moment with warmth and humor. He was a loving son to Rene and Diane Benitez and a devoted fiancé to Christina Fiore.

Chris’s interests reflected his vibrant personality. He was an avid gamer who enjoyed video games as well as tabletop favorites like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. He also loved outdoor yard games such as Can Jam and Co****le, activities that often brought friends and family together for fun-filled afternoons. A passionate San Francisco 49ers fan, he celebrated each game with enthusiasm. He also held a love for boxing; Chris appreciated both the discipline of the sport and its intensity.

He is remembered not only for the hobbies he loved but for the way he made others feel respected, valued, and always welcome. His sisters-in-law Yazmin and Daisy Benitez were part of the extended circle of love that surrounded him throughout his life.

Chris now joins beloved family members who passed before him: his grandparents, Frank and Bonnie Bereza, Gaspar “Indio” and Iraida Ortega; and his uncles, Danny Bereza and Gaspar “Gank” Benitez.

As we reflect on Chris’s life, a life filled with laughter, loyalty, and love, we hold close the memories that continue to inspire us. His legacy lives on in every game played around a table or backyard lawn, every shared joke between siblings, every quiet moment of remembrance.

May Christopher Rene Benitez’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Visiting hours for Chris will be held on February 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Redgate - Hennessy, Main Street and 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull, CT 06611.

Michael McElroy

Michael Leo McElroy, a.k.a. Mac, 71, of Fairfield, was born in Norwalk, CT on October 20, 1954, and passed away on January 12, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Anne Wilcox-McElroy, and two children Fiona and Mairéad McElroy, of Fairfield; his brother Andrew (Jan) McElroy; sisters Kathleen Hazen, Maura Milner, Gretta (Chris) Benson, and Marcia McElroy; his in-laws William (Tara) Wilcox, Amy (Brian) Arnone, Heather (John) Robertson, and Alexis (Dana Rozanski) Wilcox, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mac is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Margaret (Devine) McElroy.

Mac attended kindergarten at Cranbury School then went to St. Jerome’s, graduating from Central Catholic High School and on to Paul Smith’s College to study Forestry. After that he continued his education at the University of New Haven, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering. Once he got his Land Surveyor and House Inspector licenses he opened his own business, Black Rock Surveyors, including his childhood friend Tommy Eula in the enterprise. Black Rock Surveyors will continue operating as part of Mac’s legacy, with his nephew Brian Arnone Jr. at the helm.

Mac loved animals: turtles in the Partrick Road neighborhood pond, tanks full of tropical fish rescued from Rhode Island, his first dog Betsey Ross he got for his fourth birthday, and Zac, his trusty surveying Shih Tzu sidekick. He was an avid scuba diver, and he shared this hobby with Catherine Anne on their honeymoon in Newport.

Mac met his wife Catherine Anne (Cathy) through a blind date, and coincidentally they realized they both belonged to the Ski Bears in Norwalk. This crew enjoyed skiing, biking, volleyball, and volunteering at the Oyster Festival! He was as gentle as he was silly, adored all his nieces and nephews and was especially proud of his children Fiona and Mairéad. Mac never hesitated to engage with his kids’ friends as captives subject to his inscrutable dad jokes: deliberately deployed with suspense and stealthy delivery.

Mac possessed a dearth of factoids about trees and soils science. As a land surveyor, he could wield a chainsaw, machete, sledgehammer, and his robotic transit. He pitched horseshoes anddrank beer with his friends. He supported many different environmental and social justice causes, by offering his land surveying services to Habitat for Humanity and making sure Bernie Sanders got all the $27 donations he asked for. Mike was passionate about fairness and equity. Science and environmentalism was a constant theme in his home. He spent years filtering canola oil from the pizza place to run his converted veggie diesel Jetta, and bringing it to display at local Earth Day celebrations with the help of Fiona and Mairéad–inspiring them to remain passionate leaders of environmental justice in their daily pursuits.

Mac was an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity, providing surveys for years, of houses to be rehabbed in Bridgeport. He and Fiona shared a love of rock hounding, hiking with chisel and mallet, examining various kinds of rocks and minerals in the area, even setting up a noisy rock polishing device in the garage. While not a musician himself Mac bought many instruments for his kids and spent a lot of time driving both Fiona and Mairéad to their next dance practice, orchestra rehearsal, drum lesson, or supervising rock concerts, constantly remarking how impressed he was by their devotion to their passions. Michael also designed a green home incorporating sustainable technologies. His curiosity knew no bounds. He was obsessed with searching for the money pit on his absolute favorite show “The Curse of Oak Island.” He has recently become a card-carrying member of the International Flying Saucer Bureau and attended monthly meetings at the library. The Buffalo Bills became his favorite football team; he lived in the hoodie that he purchased at the stadium while on the way to Niagara Falls and Toronto for his 25th anniversary with Catherine Anne.

When people describe Mac, they use words like sweet, generous, loving, smart, interesting, awesome, a gentle soul with the most caring eyes, wonderful, kind-hearted, lovely, special, funny, devoted husband and father, and selfless. His memory will forever be with all those he touched and his spirit will reside in our hearts for eternity as we navigate this profound loss.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, CT Saturday, February 7, 10 AM at 10 Lyons Plains Road.

Calls and cards will be gratefully accepted.
