Celebrating National Therapeutic Recreation Month at Monarch!
This February, we recognize the power of recreational therapy and the dedicated professionals who bring joy, connection, and purpose to those we serve. At Monarch, we take a holistic approach to well-being and recognize that health goes beyond the physical. Therapeutic recreation is a purposeful, evidence-based practice that reduces social isolation, enhances emotional well-being, and supports physical, cognitive, and social health.
From creative expression and movement to group engagement, our goal is to help every individual thrive and belong today and every day.

We proudly held our first successful Resident Council meeting of 2026, marking an exciting new chapter for our community. This year, we were delighted to welcome new council members while also honoring the dedicated service of two remarkable leaders—Peter Heart, former President of the Council, and Virginia Burgess, Secretary. Both served our community with passion, commitment, and enthusiasm, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the lasting impact they have made.
We are pleased to announce that Joel Robinson has been elected President of the Resident Council for 2026. Joel is a highly engaged and valued member of our community, actively participating in the book club, poker club, bridge club, and our lecture series, where he shares his wealth of knowledge through monthly talks on a wide range of topics. His enthusiasm, insight, and dedication make him an exceptional leader, and we feel truly fortunate to have him guiding the council this year.
In addition, we bid a fond farewell to one of our cherished dining team members, Roz, as she begins a well-deserved retirement. Roz has been a beloved presence in our community, consistently serving with warmth, compassion, and a welcoming smile. She will be deeply missed, and we wish her happiness and fulfillment in this next chapter of her life.

Flower arranging is a monthly activity residents look forward to and enjoy. There are many benefits. Improves physical health: Flower arranging helps maintain fine motor skills, hand strength, and coordination, supporting mobility and dexterity in older adults.
Enhances mental and emotional wellbeing: Working with flowers can reduce stress, elevate mood, and promote relaxation through sensory stimulation such as color, texture, and scent.
Encourages social interaction and purpose: Flower arranging provides opportunities for social engagement and fosters a sense of achievement and purpose, which can reduce loneliness and improve overall quality of life.

Mosaic Memory Community enjoyed therapeutic painting today. Here are three benefits to painting. Supports emotional expression and reduces anxiety: Painting offers a nonverbal way to express feelings, which can lower stress, agitation, and frustration often experienced by people with dementia.
Stimulates cognitive function: Engaging in painting can help activate memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, supporting overall brain engagement in a gentle, enjoyable way.
Enhances self-esteem and social connection: Completing artwork fosters a sense of accomplishment and can encourage interaction with caregivers or peers, reducing feelings of isolation. # Monarchcommunities
