Body Fat % a Better Indicator of CardioMetabolic Disease than Weight Alone!
This study done by the Mayo Clinic measured body adiposity with DEXA Scan looking at all-cause mortality in normal weight individuals.
-large sample size-20,613 individuals
-Findings: Every 10% increase in total body fat is associated with > risk of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, and all-cause mortality in normal BMI group.
Some key takeaways:
1. If participating in a weight loss program, provider should have the ability to measure body fat % and SMM, as in DEXA scan or at least metabolic scale like In-Body.
2.BMI should not be only predictor of weight loss.
