Why Every Body is a Teacher
I've been thinking a lot lately about how every single person who walks through our doors teaches me something new about the human body. Today, I want to share a story that perfectly captures why we do what we do at The Belly Studio.
A few years back, a retired surgical nurse came to see me struggling with persistent balance problems. The obvious culprit? Her legs were externally rotated—a common issue I see in healthcare workers who've spent decades standing at operating tables.
But something felt... locked. Stuck in a way that went beyond muscular compensation.
I paused and asked her a question that surprised us both: "Have you ever had a significant fall on your tailbone?"
She went quiet. Then her eyes widened. "Oh my God. When I was seven, I was thrown from a wagon. I landed hard on my tailbone and couldn't walk for days. I haven't thought about that in over 25 years."
There it was.
Her body had been holding onto that childhood trauma for two and a half decades. That forgotten injury—not just her career—was the key to unlocking her current balance issues. Once we addressed the deep-seated compensation patterns from that fall, her balance began to transform.
This is why we don't just treat symptoms at The Belly Studio. We listen. We ask questions. We honor the deeper story your body is telling, even when that story has been forgotten for years.
Your body remembers everything. And sometimes, the path to healing starts with remembering together.
