About MBSR:

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week evidence-based program that offers secular, intensive mindfulness training to assist people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain.

It is a practical approach which trains attention, allowing people to cultivate awareness and therefore enabling them to have more choice and take wise action in their lives. Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970s by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness, yoga and exploration of patterns of behavior, thinking, feeling and action.

Mindfulness can be understood as the non-judgmental acceptance and "open-hearted" investigation of present experience, including body sensations, internal mental states, thoughts, emotions, impulses and memories, in order to reduce suffering or distress and to increase well-being.

MBSR has been studied over the past 40 years and provides an effective and comprehensive way to cope with stress, gain deeper insight into triggers and reactions, and be able to have more tools in the toolkit for being present and aware (stopping the autopilot) to obtain deeper more profound insights into one's mind, body, relationships, ideas and life in general. Being fully alive in the present moment exactly where you are at.

Or in the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn: "Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally ... in the service of self-understanding, compassion and wisdom.”

Please join us for an orientation session this Saturday, December 7th from 4-6pm at the Historic Y in Downtown Tucson.
