Regarding Case Study 75yo Man (we'll call him Mr Roof) who fell from 12' roof:
Today, Mr Roof states his neck is tight and bothering him. He wears an arm sling to keep his shoulder protected as he has a broken collar bone on the R side. Considerations: where does the sling strap rest on his neck, what muscular and neural tissues lie underneath the strap and surrounding areas, what does a deep inhale/exhale look/feel like, are shoulders even (one higher, one more in front/back), how does his jaw feel (masseter, temporals, etc). Just a few questions I ask myself and/or the patient on observation.
I worked SCM (which assists in lifting the thorax during inhalation), scalenes (also assist with breathing, elevates ribs 1 & 2), a little bit of platysma (front of neck) and masseter on R side. The result: Mr Roof coughed a normal cough about 10 minutes post massage. He hasn't had the ability to cough in over 2 weeks due to his injuries and pain. Now, he can get some phlegm moving and get the stagnant junk out! 💪🙌

Come along with me and see the progression on this new complex patient I’m working with. Here’s the details:
75 y.o. active gentleman who fell from a roof 12’ high on October 4, 2025. He is just over 2 weeks out today.
Injuries sustained: Right side- 5 broken ribs, broken collar bone, 5 broken thoracic vertebra, broken scapula. Left side- broken radius at wrist. Other injuries: punctured lung (had a chest tube for 9 days to drain fluid from lung) and a traumatic brain injury (7cm bleed on R frontal/parietal lobes).
The patient is doing remarkably well, however has residual aches, pains and rehabilitation ahead of him.
For those of you who are in the therapeutic field…where would you start? What stands out to you and why? What special considerations would you have? What are your questions?

✨ Therapeutic touch can quiet the body’s stress response and create space for real recovery.
Massage therapy can be a powerful complement to rehabilitation. Whether recovering from a brain injury, trauma, or physical injury, therapeutic touch helps regulate, restore, and reconnect.
In my years working in inpatient rehab as a massage therapist & occupational therapy assistant, I’ve seen how calming the nervous system can create the foundation for mobility, independence, and renewed hope.

🌀 Massage & Mental Health: More Than Skin Deep 🌀
As someone who’s navigated surgeries, injuries, depression, anxiety, and even substance use… I’ve learned firsthand that healing isn’t just physical. The body remembers — tension, trauma, emotions — all stored within our fascia, our muscles, our nervous system.
Massage therapy became my bridge back to myself.
It helped me reconnect to my body when I had spent years not listening and/or trusting it. Through touch, breath, and awareness, I began to release not only physical pain, but the emotional weight I’d been carrying too.
Massage can help regulate the nervous system — shifting us from “fight or flight” to “rest and restore.” It lowers cortisol, boosts serotonin and dopamine, and invites the mind to exhale. For many, it becomes a safe place to feel again — without judgment, without words, just presence.
Whether you’re recovering from physical injury, navigating stress, or rebuilding after emotional burnout — massage supports the body, mind, and spirit in coming back into alignment.
Healing is not linear. But you don’t have to do it alone. Sometimes, it starts with simply showing up for yourself — one breath, one session, one release at a time.
💆‍♀️✨ Your body is ready to heal. Let’s help it remember how.

Recovery is never just physical.
After surgery, injury, or illness — the body heals, but it also holds.
When we experience trauma or inflammation, our fascia — the connective web that supports every muscle, bone, and organ — can tighten and restrict movement. These restrictions not only limit flexibility but can also impact circulation, lymph flow, and the way our body processes pain.
Massage therapy helps free these fascial layers, restore healthy tissue mobility, and re-establish communication throughout the body.
But true recovery isn’t just about the tissues — it’s also about the nervous system. Safe, mindful touch can calm the body’s stress response, ease emotional tension, and help both humans and horses release the protective patterns they’ve been holding.
Healing deepens when the whole being feels safe, seen, and supported.
Massage bridges the physical, mental, and emotional — addressing not only what’s sore, but what’s stored.
✨ True healing isn’t a return to who you were before — it’s a reconnection to who you are now.

When it comes to therapeutic massage, the length of your session matters just as much as the techniques used.

🔹 60 minutes – Best for targeted work on one or two specific regions (for example, addressing post-surgical scar tissue, acute flare-ups, or a localized injury). It’s focused and effective, but limited in scope.

🔹 90 minutes – Provides time for both focused treatment and broader integration. This length allows me to address multiple problem areas, support the nervous system in down-regulating pain, and restore balance without rushing the process.

🔹 120 minutes – Recommended for chronic pain, complex post-surgical needs, or patients with physical disabilities who benefit from gradual, methodical work. Extended time allows deeper release, lymphatic support, and more comprehensive coverage across the body.

Every body heals differently. The right session length ensures treatment is thorough, safe, and tailored to your recovery goals.
