Here is an update on "early discharge" at TMC - Midwifery Center from Dr. Greta Gill (edited): Early discharge remains an option for all who qualify. The early discharge class is currently being revised and the new schedule will be posted soon. It has never been required, but we strongly recommend it for patients who have never done community birth. Most importantly, families need to know that the early discharge visit at Barrio Babies is not optional. The option for early discharge will disappear if families do not follow through on their end.

As for logistics, most families opting for early discharge leave directly from the Midwifery Center. The minimum stay is 4 hours, and most couplets leave in 4-6 hours. If a 12-hour stay is needed for things like GBS, occasionally they will be moved to mom/baby after a couple of hours. This is rare and only if the bed or nurse are needed.
