Today we saw the Epilepsy Doctor at UCSFMC for a video conference. ... It was very informative. If you don't know.. my husband suffered from a colloidal cyst which plugged up the ventricles in his brain and caused hydrocephalus. He presented with frank memory loss, anger, confusion, and eventually grand Mal seizures. ...the sudden onset of his symptoms made me look back to what actually were symptoms that I did not notice. I thought anger was PTSD from his job as a CHP officer, but then he started believing things that didn't happen and became distrustful and suspicious of all of us in the family. I started to believe the awful things he would say to me, started doubting myself as a nurse..but he was sick and his seizure showed us just how sick he was..When we got to the transferring hospital he had an ee g done by neurology who told me this is a progressive problem and go home......I asked what neurosurgery said and they advised me that neuroradiology did not think the cyst was significant. Because of my position at the hospital I worked I was able to convince neurology to pass this case to neurosurgery. They saw him and were convinced that the MALT Lymphoma he had experienced had gone to his brain but after a ventriculostomy their findings were waaaaay different. The colloidal cyst had plugged the outlet to his ventricles and as soon as they dissected it the CSF started to flow and they determined a shunt was not necessary. It was purely a mechanical issue. So now comes the healing and it has been long. If you want to hear the ending let me know and I will tell you how it ended up. Let me know if you have suffered a similar road or know of someone....
