Root of the Week: Holiday Stress Edition 🌱

The holidays are a time for joy and connection, but let’s be real—stress often tags along for the ride. In fact, nearly 9 in 10 U.S. adults report feeling stressed during the holiday season. So, if you’re feeling the pressure, you’re not alone!

Here’s what’s got most of us sweating under the twinkly lights:
🎁 Spending too much or not having enough to spend: 58%
🎄 Finding the “perfect” gifts: 40%
💔 Missing loved ones: 38%
🗓️ Too much to do, too little time: 32%
✨ Pressure to make everything magical: 30%
🍷 Food and drink worries: 25%
🏠 Not being able to be with family: 25%
💥 Anticipating family drama: 22%
😔 Feeling excluded: 20%
✈️ Travel headaches: 19%

Sound familiar? Here’s how to stay grounded this holiday season:
🌟 Take a breather: Schedule time for yourself—whether it’s a cozy movie night or a peaceful walk.
📝 Set realistic expectations: It’s okay to say no to things that overwhelm you.
💌 Focus on connection, not perfection: A heartfelt card or call can mean more than a pricey gift.
💧 Stay hydrated & rested: You can’t pour from an empty cup, even if it’s festive.
❤️ Give yourself grace: The holidays are messy, and that’s okay!

Root of the week: Listen to your body-

Understanding the crucial link between self-care and mental health hinges on our states of arousal. Often, we tether self-care to societal roles. By allowing ourselves to break free from these norms and attune to our bodies, we empower ourselves to replenish our well-being and fulfill our needs more authentically.

Root of the week: Breaking the cycle

Breaking the cycle of generational trauma is a challenging journey that requires courage and determination. It’s not easy for a child to disconnect from their caregivers, but sometimes it’s necessary for their well-being. Remember, just because someone is a blood relative doesn’t mean that abuse should be tolerated. Let’s work together to create a safer and healthier future for everyone. ❤️

Root of the day: Boundaries

Boundaries are your personal fences, signaling who’s welcomed into your space without hurting anyone. They’re an act of self-love, not rejection. But society’s mixed messages often leave us feeling guilty. Let’s flip the script: Boundaries invite love and respect. Check out the article below to learn how to set them gracefully: https://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/how-life-treeting-you-importance-of-boundaries #:~:text=Boundaries%20help%20determine%20what%20is,%2C%20bosses%2C%20or%20family%20members.

Root of the day: Nature

Being in nature can have numerous benefits for mental health. Firstly, it provides a break from the constant stimulation of modern life, allowing the mind to relax and reset. Nature also offers a sense of tranquility and peace, which can reduce stress and anxiety levels. Exposure to natural sunlight can boost mood and regulate sleep patterns, while physical activity such as walking or hiking releases endorphins, improving mood and reducing symptoms of depression. Additionally, being in natural environments can foster a sense of connection with the world around us, promoting feelings of awe, gratitude, and overall well-being.

Tree roots and the human nervous system share a deep connection. They both thrive on interaction with their surroundings, drawing meaning and purpose from their experiences. Whether it’s roots seeking nutrients in the soil or our nerves processing sensory input, they remind us of our interconnectedness and the importance of embracing our individual journeys. 🌱🧠
