Teamwork in action! 🙌

Current members and alumni of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority joined forces for a volunteer day at SAAF, creating harm reduction kits that directly support people accessing our Prevention Services and Syringe Access Program.

These kits are a vital part of reducing harm, promoting health, and showing compassion in action. Thank you, Gamma Alpha Omega, for continuing to make an impact — together! 💜

It’s time to speak up. Congress is making funding decisions that directly impact HIV/AIDS care in our community. By writing a Letter to the Editor, you can call on leaders to vote YES for housing, medical care, prevention and treatment programs that keep Southern Arizona strong.

The way you close your letter matters. It’s your chance to leave a lasting impression and call your readers (and leaders) to act. Here’s how to wrap it up powerfully:
✅Connect the dots. Remind readers that HIV/AIDS programs don’t exist in silos. Cutting one program weakens others.
✅ Make it human. Budget cuts aren’t just numbers. They mean more cases, more deaths and more families affected right here in Southern Arizona.
✅ End with urgency. Be clear: Congress must prioritize human health and fully fund these programs before the final budget is passed.

Southern Arizona can’t afford more cuts. When federal budgets slash HIV/AIDS funding, our neighbors lose access to housing, care and prevention. But decisions aren’t final yet, and we need our community to speak up.

A Letter to the Editor puts pressure where it matters most: on congressional leaders making the choice. In addition to the programs we shared last time, here are two more key programs you should consider including in your Letter to the Editor:

CDC HIV Surveillance and Prevention
➡️ This tracks the epidemic and provides prevention programs like testing and PrEP access. It’s how we understand and respond to the epidemic, staying ahead of new infections.
➡️Cuts would severely hamper our ability to monitor the epidemic and implement effective prevention strategies.

Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) initiative
➡️This is a comprehensive plan to reduce new HIV infections by 90% by 2030.
➡️Cuts to this directly contradicts the goal of making America healthy again by undermining on-the-ground support.

Federal budget cuts are threatening HIV/AIDS services right here in Southern Arizona. But the fight isn’t over, and your voice matters. By writing a Letter to the Editor, you can call on our congressional leaders to vote YES on funding for critical HIV/AIDS resources. Here are some tips to create a great intro to your Letter to the Editor:

➡️ Keep it local. Share how these cuts directly affect your neighbors, family or community.
➡️ Be clear with your ask. Urge our congressional leaders to protect funding for life-saving programs.
➡️ Show how this affects everyone. HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment are not niche issues — they reduce transmission and strain on emergency services.
➡️ Tie into a broader framework. Defunding these programs contradicts the goal of the “Make America Healthy Again” program.

About Us

The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) formed in 1997 as the result of a merger of three Tucson-based AIDS service organizations. In November 2014, SAAF acquired Wingspan, Southern Arizona’s LGBT Community Center. SAAF’s mission is to “cultivate a healthy and stigma-free society through transformative action.” Collectively, through its predecessor agencies, SAAF has served the community for more than 30 years by providing services to enhance the health and quality of life for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to assist people in preventing HIV, Substance Abuse, Hepatitis C, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). SAAF continually works to meet the needs of the LGBTQ+ community, and focuses on evidence-based prevention programs to reach at-risk populations.
