Hello! How cute is this goat? SO CUTE! But, now that I have your attention, I have an announcement to make. For the past year, I’ve been thinking about time, energy, connection, authenticity - all that good, juicy stuff that makes a life. I’ve asked myself a lot of questions about my business. One of the biggest questions I’ve had is…..can a small business exist without social media?
Every time I create a post, every time I scroll, every time my mind goes to “check engagement”, every time I spend energy thinking up things to say to you, I feel an immediate dissonance. I struggle to experience the time I spend thinking about social media as valuable.
People have value. My connections, conversations and interactions with people have value. You have value. I am not interested in telling you that in a post, though I just did. I’m interested in tangible interactions. I’m interested in telling you that in person.
I don’t need more noise, do you? I don’t want to lean on social media for guidance, but I will reach out for in person connection and guidance. I want to not think in posts and images. I have never gotten good at gimmicks or trends. I like a small, quiet life that is rich in human connection and interaction.
So, as the owner of Rooted, and the person who is responsible for our businesses visibility online, I have felt obligated to be here, and now, we will no longer be here on socials (as the kids say).
Like cute goats will continue to exist, so will Rooted! But, cute goats don’t NEED to do yoga with you. They are still cute without yoga.
And so, this will be our last post. Let’s see if I can answer the question which I asked at the top and have really already answered in my heart. Can a small business exist without social media?
Yes, I believe it can.
I will be hopeful that the goodwill and good deeds we have offered to the community for 13 years is on its own a living, breathing thing. On our 13th anniversary in April, we will still be seeing clients, still doing good work and still available for connection, but this account will be deactivated. Take good care of yourselves and others! ❤️
