February is a perfect time to check in with your health goals. Here are 3 simple habits we recommend at Tucson Bariatric whether you're preparing for surgery or navigating life after:

1️⃣ Hydrate First: Start each morning with 16 oz. of water before anything else.
2️⃣ Protein with Every Meal: Aim for lean sources: chicken, tofu, eggs, or Greek yogurt.
3️⃣ You don’t need a gym to move your body. For February, commit to just 10 minutes of intentional movement daily, whether it’s a walk around the block, gentle stretching, or a few bodyweight exercises at home.

Remember: Health isn’t about a quick fix. It’s about building a lifestyle that works for you.

Need more guidance? We're here for your journey, every step of the way.

Dr. Jeff Monash was honored as a Tucson Hero at the quarterly Hero Breakfast, a community event recognizing individuals who exemplify service, courage, and compassion.

Dr. Monash, founder of Tucson Bariatric and the Wound Center of Tucson was the event’s first-ever medical honoree. He was recognized alongside heroes from three branches of the U.S. military and Andy Cathey, brother of co-founder Matthew Crandell.

Adding a deeply personal note to the event, Gordy Siewert, a patient of Dr. Monash, was welcomed as the featured community speaker. Gordy’s words about strength, healing, and gratitude moved the room, underscoring the profound bonds that can form between patients and their physicians.

You don’t need more motivation — you need better tools.

Whether you're 2 weeks or 2 years post-op, tracking can help you:
✅ Hit your protein goals
✅ Stay hydrated
✅ Catch habits that are slipping
✅ See progress you might be missing

Here are 3 free apps we recommend at Tucson Bariatrics:

Baritastic — Built for bariatric patients. Track protein, vitamins, meals, and milestones.
WaterMinder — Helps you stay on top of hydration with reminders and visual goals.
MyFitnessPal — Great for detailed nutrition tracking, including macronutrients and trends.

You don’t need to track forever — but it helps you stay aware.

This January, as we enter 2026, remember this:

Bariatric surgery isn’t a diet. It’s not a shortcut.
It’s a reset — a medical tool paired with long-term support.

The real work?
- Prioritizing protein
- Drinking water before anything else
- Slowing down at meals
- Moving your body, however you can
- Keeping up with labs and vitamins

If it’s been a while since your last check-in, we’re still here.

You don’t need to do it alone. You don’t need to do it perfectly.
You just need to keep going.
