🚨 WINTER STORM WARNING – THIS WEEKEND 🚨
A winter storm is expected to impact the Alamogordo area this weekend, bringing cold temperatures, possible snow or ice, and hazardous travel conditions. The Alamogordo Fire Department encourages residents to prepare now and take steps to protect your family, home, and pets.
❄️ WINTER WEATHER SAFETY
• Limit travel during the storm unless absolutely necessary
• If you must drive, slow down and watch for icy roads, bridges, and shaded areas
• Dress in warm layers and limit exposure to cold temperatures
• Check on elderly neighbors and anyone who may need assistance
🔥 HEATING & FIRE SAFETY
• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
• Never leave heaters unattended or operating while sleeping
• Use fireplaces and wood stoves safely and ensure proper ventilation
• Never use ovens, grills, or outdoor heaters to warm your home
• Ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working
• Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home and do not use them inside your home or garage
🐾 PET SAFETY
• Bring pets indoors during freezing temperatures
• Provide warm, dry shelter and unfrozen water for animals kept outside
• Protect pets’ paws from ice and de-icing chemicals
• Never leave pets in vehicles during cold weather
📞 REMEMBER
In an emergency, call 911. Avoid unnecessary risks so emergency crews can respond where they are needed most.
