Autism doesn’t always show up the way people expect. Many early signs are subtle and often misunderstood as behaviour issues. The earlier it’s recognised, the sooner the right support can begin.

If you notice these signs in a child, don’t wait or assume it will pass, speak to a professional and seek proper assessment and guidance.

Early understanding can make a meaningful difference in the autism journey.
It shapes how support is given, received, and experienced.

Here are 10 important things every caregiver should know early about autism:

1. Autism is not something to “fix”, it’s something to understand.

2. Progress won’t always look the way you imagined.

3. Communication goes beyond words, it can be expressed in many ways.

4. Meltdowns are not misbehavior — they are responses to overwhelm.

5. Routine provides comfort and a sense of stability.

6. Every small milestone matters.

7. Comparison can take away from your unique journey.

8. Seeking support is an important part of caregiving.

9. Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of them.

10. You are better than you think, even on the difficult

You’re learning. You’re showing up. And that counts.

Easter is more than just a date,it’s a reminder that renewal is always within reach ✨

It’s easy to look at a holiday like Easter and just see the eggs and the candy. But at its heart, this season is a powerful reminder for all of us: Renewal and hope are always within reach. For our families here at Empowered Services, we know that "new beginnings" aren't just for a calendar date. They happen in the small breakthroughs, the quiet moments of connection, and the resilience we see every single day in our community.

As the flowers finally start to bloom in Oregon, we want to know: What is one "fresh start" or "small win" you’re celebrating this spring? Drop a 💛 below so we can celebrate with you!

Sometimes, what looks like silence is someone trying their best to process the moment.

Sometimes, what feels like distance…
is a different way of connecting.

Autism isn’t something you can always see.
But for those who live it every day, it shapes how the world feels, sounds, and unfolds.

And that experience is different for everyone.

This World Autism Awareness Day, we’re choosing empathy over assumptions.

To pause.
To listen.
To understand — even when it looks different from what we expect.

Because everyone deserves to feel accepted, just as they are.

Happy New Month✨

A new month is here, and at Empowered Services, we’re starting it by celebrating the moments that truly matter.

It’s in the high-fives after a big breakthrough, the joy of walking side-by-side with a friend, and the strength of a community that truly understands. This month is a celebration of the partnerships and progress that help everyone thrive in their own way.

This April, we hope your month is full of:

Breakthroughs that start with a single step.

Laughter that fills the whole room.

Connections where you feel completely at home.

Our April newsletter is officially out, and it’s a letter straight from the heart. Inside, you’ll find spring self-care tips, a hands-on Easter craft, a family recipe to try together, and an invitation to our 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt! 🐣

Most importantly, it features a personal message from John that reminds us all why we do what we do: because every person in this community is seen, valued, and loved. 💛

Meet Dyann — our Pillar of Empowerment and Featured DSP of the Month!

Dyann came out of retirement through an act of faith and has been blessing the Empowered Services family since August 2022. She and her customer Ashlee share a beautiful bond — they laugh, cook, shop (a lot!), attend Women's Bible Study together, and explore the world around them.

When she's not with Ashlee, you can find Dyann gardening, kayaking, hiking, or soaking up the sunshine in Oregon City with her husband Ron and their cat Boo-Boo.

Dyann, your dedication, warmth, and heart for care set a remarkable example. We are so grateful you're part of our team.

Meet Ashlee — our Empowered Star and Featured Customer of the Month!
Ashlee lights up every room she walks into. She loves fashion, shopping, fishing with her family, and spending time with her provider Dyann — from Women's Bible Study to baking and cooking together at Hilltop Church.
Summer is her favorite season (beach days and bowling with friends at Empowered Services!).
We are so proud of the example you set for everyone in the IDD community, Ashlee. You are a true star.
