February is American Heart Month, a nationwide observance focused on heart health—and on empowering more people to save lives. First proclaimed in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, American Heart Month began as a national call to take charge of cardiovascular health—a mission that matters just as much today.

Heart disease remains a leading cause of death, but knowing CPR can make the difference when seconds count. Join the Nation of Lifesavers and learn CPR. Your knowledge could help save a life—maybe even someone you love.

February is American Heart Month. Learn CPR today so you can be ready and become a part of the Nation of Lifesavers.

National Wear Red Day — Friday, February 6, 2026

On Friday, February 6, we join organizations across the country in observing National Wear Red Day, a key moment in American Heart Month dedicated to raising awareness of cardiovascular disease—the leading cause of death among women in the United States. Cardiovascular disease doesn’t just affect a few; it impacts far too many lives, often in ways that go unrecognized.

National Wear Red Day encourages everyone to “go red” — not just in color, but in action — by promoting heart-healthy lifestyles, sharing education, and supporting the ongoing work of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women® movement. This campaign emphasizes that knowledge and prevention can save lives and that understanding risk is a powerful step toward better health for women of all ages.

At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we believe in empowering our community with information and resources that support heart health for all. On this Wear Red Day, we encourage you to learn your numbers, support the women in your life, and help raise awareness about heart disease risk factors and prevention.

Together, we can make heart health a priority — for women, for families, and for our community. https://www.heart.org/en/about-us/heart-attack-and-stroke-symptoms

Today, on World Cancer Day, we stand together to honor the millions of lives touched by cancer around the world. Cancer affects individuals, families, friends, and entire communities — but it doesn’t define who we are. We are more than a diagnosis, more than a number, more than a statistic.

The theme for the 2025–2027 World Cancer Day campaign, “United by Unique,” reminds us that each person’s experience with cancer is unique—shaped by their own story, needs, challenges, and strengths—and that placing people at the center of care leads to better outcomes for everyone. Today isn’t just about awareness; it’s about recognizing every unique journey and committing to compassionate, people-centered care.

At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we’re proud to support our community through prevention, education, compassionate care, and the drive to make a difference — together.

Let’s keep listening, learning, and showing up for one another. Because while each story is unique, we are united by our uniqueness. https://www.worldcancerday.org/about/preventing-cancer

Today, we join the nation in recognizing National Women Physicians Day — observed each year on February 3 in honor of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree in 1849. Her grit cracked open the door for women in medicine at a time when most medical schools simply wouldn’t admit them.

Today, we’re celebrating women in healthcare in all their roles—the ones at the bedside, behind the scenes, and in leadership positions—who make Swisher Memorial Healthcare System work every single day. Their contributions to patient care, healing, innovation, and the human experience of medicine are real, measurable, and worth honoring.

Today, we recognize Seeing Eye Dog Day, honoring the incredible guide dogs that help individuals who are visually impaired gain independence, confidence, and mobility.

This day marks the founding of The Seeing Eye organization in 1929, established by Morris Frank and Dorothy Harrison Eustis. Their vision created the first guide dog school in the United States and forever changed the lives of people with visual impairments by offering greater freedom and safety through specially trained guide dogs.

At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we celebrate the powerful bond between humans and service animals, and we honor the dedication of the trainers, volunteers, and organizations who make this life-changing work possible.
