Demand Is Growing Our Capacity Is Not (Yet)

The need for the 1st Step Male Diversion Program has never been greater. Courts, families, and young men across Northeast Oklahoma are actively seeking placement in our program, and right now, our waiting list is long. This is both encouraging and sobering. Encouraging because it confirms that a habilitation-first approach works and is trusted. Sobering because every name on that waiting list represents a young man who is prison-bound without immediate access to a
safe, structured residential environment. Our greatest limiting factor is residential space. The program works because participants live in a highly structured, pro-social community where accountability, work,
counseling, and mentorship happen daily. When beds are full, we cannot say “yes,” even when the need is urgent.
Additional funding will allow us to expand residential capacity, opening doors instead of turning young men away. Expansion means fewer prison sentences, stronger families, and safer communities.
