Did you know there are three types of hearing loss? And they each have different causes and treatments.

1. Sensorineural hearing loss, the most common, occurs when inner ear nerves and hair cells are damaged and impact the pathways from your inner ear to your brain.
2. Conductive hearing loss is typically the result of obstructions in the outer or middle ear that prevent sound from getting to the inner ear.
3. Mixed hearing loss is a combination of the two.

With the increasing amount of time kids are using headphones during the pandemic, how can parents' keep their hearing safe?

Here's a few tips:

–The volume should be set to a level where your child can hear when spoken to, and you can’t hear sound leaking from their headphones.

–Have them take breaks from headphone use throughout the day.

–Tell your child's doctor if they begin frequently asking “what?” or for things to be repeated.

–Have your child's hearing tested at least every three years to catch future problems.

Protect your child's hearing by scheduling an appointment with the hearing care experts at The Scholl Center (918) 303-7779.
