Dr. Edward Martin was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal by the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) at the 2026 Scientific Sessions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, recognizing extraordinary service and lasting impact in the field. Often considered a “Hall of Fame” distinction, this award celebrates individuals who have advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in truly meaningful ways.

Dr. Martin’s contributions have shaped the field on a global scale, including:
• Establishing the first cardiovascular MRI in a private cardiology practice in the U.S. (1999)
• Helping create and define the current cardiovascular MRI CPT billing codes
• Pioneering research on safely performing MRI scans in patients with pacemakers—changing practices worldwide
• Leading efforts to establish accreditation standards for CMR systems
• Training more than 80 physicians and technologists in CMR

He was also previously named a Master of the Society in 2021 — making this recognition even more remarkable.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Martin on this incredible achievement and his continued impact on advancing cardiovascular care!

Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) successfully completed the first transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) with the Laplace Interventional valve in Oklahoma and the surrounding region this week.

This valve is being studied for minimally invasive treatment of tricuspid regurgitation (severely leaky tricuspid heart valve), and allows for replacement of the tricuspid valve without surgery. This therapy provides hope to patients struggling with symptoms such as fatigue, leg swelling and shortness of breath.

OHI offers the most advanced and comprehensive structural heart program in the state and region, offering all commercially available therapies and access to multiple research trials of promising new therapies. OHI is the only facility in the region offering the Laplace TTVR Early Feasibility trial, in line with our mission of innovation and clinical excellence for the benefit of our patients.

Caution: Laplace Interventional's TTVR System is approved for investigational use in the United States and limited by Federal or United States) law to investigational use only.

Oklahoma Heart Institute recently implanted Tulsa's first OmniaSecure™ defibrillation lead. Led by Dr. Joseph Gard and our expert electrophysiology team, this procedure marks a major advancement for cardiac patients in our region!

As the world’s smallest defibrillation lead, the OmniaSecure™ from Medtronic allows our physicians to achieve more precise placement while maintaining powerful life-saving therapy. This innovation provides the "best of all worlds" by enabling both pacing and defibrillation in a single lead, which reduces procedural complexity for our patients. This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing world-class technology and compassionate care to our community.
