Oklahoma Heart Institute’s structural heart team enrolled more patients than any other site in the world in the ENCIRCLE Trial. The positive one-year outcomes from this major trial were presented recently at this year’s Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) annual meeting in San Francisco and published in The Lancet, a renowned medical journal.

This trial tested the Edwards Sapien M3: the world’s first fully non-surgical transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) system for patients with severe mitral regurgitation who aren't good candidates for other treatments. Dr. Kamran Muhammad, interventional cardiologist at OHI, has trained physicians in using this exciting new technology in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and around the United States. We're proud to lead the way in innovation and research, and we will continue to use this technology to help patients at OHI and around the world!

Hillcrest was proud to sponsor the Youth Medical Mentorship's Fall Sports Medicine Youth Summit! Around 200 students spent the day at Union High School with 16 community partners and dozens of volunteers, gaining hands-on experience with medical professionals.

Our team members from Hillcrest South, Oklahoma Heart Institute and Utica Park Clinic led the CPR/AED station, where students practiced CPR techniques, learned how to use an AED and observed the heart in real time through ultrasound imaging. We're always grateful for the opportunity to help encourage young minds and inspire them to pursue meaningful careers in medicine!

One of OHI's newest endocrinology specialists was inspired to go into medicine after several childhood surgeries: "I keenly remembered my health care team making such an impact on my experience," said Alexandria Ingram, APRN-CNP. "[It] inspired my desire to provide the same level of care and compassion.” Alexandria says she wants her patients to feel empowered to advocate for themselves and ask questions.

When she isn’t working, Alexandria enjoys baking, exploring new hobbies and spending time with her family.

Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) is continuing our legacy of pushing cardiac care into the future. Recently, Dr. Raj Chandwaney, interventional cardiologist at OHI, was invited as a faculty member to the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference in San Francisco. He presented on a complex chronic total occlusion case he performed at OHI, where the patient's coronary artery was totally blocked.

The TCT conference drew thousands of attendees from more than a hundred countries. OHI is proud to be on the cutting edge of cardiac care and research, and providers like Dr. Chandwaney are helping other cardiac providers across the world provide better care.

It all began in nursing school, when Shaneice, RN, joined Hillcrest as a nurse extern. The complexity of the care and the warmth of the team made her decision easy — she knew she had found her place.

She officially began her career as a patient care tech on the GYN/oncology floor. With dedication, compassion, and a drive to grow, Shaneice advanced into her current role as a cardiac RN on the stepdown unit — a true reflection of the opportunities and support available at Hillcrest.

And the best part of her day? It’s the quiet moments.

“When a patient thanks me for taking good care of them. I always want to provide the best care I can, so it feels good when a patient validates your care.” And as a bonus, “My coworkers are pretty fun to be around as well.”

This is Shaneice’s story – and it’s one of many that show how Hillcrest is more than a workplace. It’s a place where careers grow, laughter is shared, and care is given with heart. Learn more about opportunities at Hillcrest and start your story by visiting the link in the comments.

She was drawn to the specialty both through her love of learning about the human vascular system and through her love of people. "I really enjoy working alongside patients as they navigate their health journey,” Chelsea said.

Outside of work, Chelsea enjoys spending time with her family, often at ball fields or basketball gyms since her four children are active in sports.
