This month's Power of One Award winner embodies the kindness and generosity of the holiday season. Security guard Casey isn't obligated to go above and beyond, but the coworker who nominated him for this award says he shows genuine selflessness to everyone he meets. The nominator said on one occasion, Casey discovered a single mom's car wouldn't start because she was out of fuel. Casey helped fill up her tank with money from his own pocket.

"Casey truly represents the standard we should all strive for, and I’m proud to work alongside him," said the nominator.

Thank you, Casey, for showing care and dedication every day. We're proud to have you on the team!

Cold air outside and dry heat inside can leave your skin feeling tight, itchy and uncomfortable. Here are some simple ways to protect and soothe your skin this winter:

• Moisturize often. Apply a thick, fragrance-free cream or ointment right after showering to lock in moisture.
• Keep showers short and lukewarm. Hot water strips your skin’s natural oils.
• Use a humidifier. Adding moisture to the air can help prevent dryness.
• Wear soft fabrics. Avoid wool or rough materials directly on your skin.
• Stay hydrated and eat well. A balanced diet helps nourish skin from the inside out.

If your skin becomes cracked, painful or doesn’t improve, it may be time to talk with a primary care provider (P*P). Need help finding a P*P? Visit the link in the comments or call 918-579-DOCS to schedule an appointment.

In the midst of our quarterly frontline leadership conference, an excellent team of nurses was whisked away for a special surprise: these women's stories of hard work and compassion are memorialized forever in a new book by Dan Collard and Katherine Meese, Ph.D., called Genfluence: How to Lead a Multigenerational Workforce. It's about building bridges between leaders of all ages and backgrounds to bring the best care possible to our patients.

Thank you to Dan for sharing this special moment with us, and thank you to our nurses who continue to raise the bar for care!

We recently concluded our quarterly frontline leadership conference at Hillcrest Medical Center — a dedicated time for our nursing leaders to strengthen their leadership skills and collaborate as a team. We also gave out awards to a group of incredible staff who display dedication and passion in their work. These experiences are essential in shaping the future of health care, building strong leaders one step at a time!

As the days get shorter and sunlight fades, many people notice changes in mood, energy and sleep.

You’re not alone — these could be signs of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression linked to changes in seasons.

There are things you can try to ease the winter blues, like getting sunlight or using a light box, staying active, staying connected, and prioritizing sleep and routine, but sometimes you need to ask for help. Talking to a primary care provider (P*P) can help you find the right support or treatment. To find a P*P and schedule an appointment, visit the link in the comments or call 918-579-DOCS.
