💚 Yoga teaches that every one of us has access to inner wisdom—and that we can trust our hearts when we slow down enough to actually listen. It also asks us to be discerning with “outside noise”: the pressure, the spin, the voices that try to make us doubt what we know deep down.

💚 Right now is a real-time invitation to pause. To set down the noise, take a few steady breaths, and check in with your heart. What does your inner knowing say? Does it align with what you’re hearing around you? If something feels off—tight, disconnected, confusing—can you stay curious and keep listening for what feels true, grounded, and humane?

💚 As a yoga community, we practice ahimsa (non-violence). That includes the violence we can direct inward—like a relentless inner critic—and the violence we can normalize outward through words, policies, or actions that harm others.
We do not condone dehumanizing or inhumane treatment of anyone. Not now. Not ever.

💚 We remain committed to peaceful co-existence, where differences can exist—so long as they do not cause harm.

After a basic 200-hour training, some instructors begin offering additional “healing” services—or making big claims about what their classes can do—without the training, supervision, or understanding needed to deliver those experiences safely.

And here’s the thing: yoga can be powerful, healthy, and life-giving.
But not every space is trauma-informed. Not every teacher is qualified for the depth of what they’re asking people to share or experience. And not every student who walks into a studio is prepared for what they might encounter.

You deserve yoga that’s ethical, evidence-informed, and honest about scope—with consent, options, and clear boundaries.

If you’ve ever felt confused, pressured, or “sold” healing in a yoga space… you’re not alone. 💛

I almost quit teaching yoga in 2018. I had experienced enough spiritual psychobabble that I wasn't really sure that yoga made sense anymore. Then I went to grad school in 2020 to become a psychotherapist and decided to focus my 60-hour graduate degree on studying the science of yoga. Not all yoga is created equally and this shows in the challenges when trying to study yoga. But is some yoga dangerous? Absolutely. I am currently creating resources on how to spot evidence-based yoga classes and when to know to walk away. Stay tuned!

Until then, here is a little snippet of positive neurological benefits of 'evidence-based' yoga.

Positive neurology is basically teaching your brain and nervous system new “default settings”—more safety, steadiness, and choice… and less reactivity, shutdown, or spinning out. In an evidence-based yoga practice, we do that by using breath + posture + attention to send clear signals to the body: “You’re safe. You can regulate. You can recover."

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—and the kind of courage that doesn’t shout, but shows up.

Courage is telling the truth (even when your voice shakes).
Integrity is aligning your values with your choices (especially when it’s inconvenient).
Strength is doing the right thing anyway—again and again.

In yoga, we practice steadiness + breath when it would be easier to brace or retreat.
In psychotherapy, we practice honesty + repair when it would be easier to numb out or blame. Both are trainings in the same direction: becoming the kind of person who can stay present, act with care, and keep choosing what’s right.

Today, may we ask ourselves:
What does “the right thing” look like in my life—at home, at work, in my community?
And what is one small, concrete step I can take this week to live it?

With respect and commitment, we’ll keep practicing.

You’ll get:

Two yoga classes – energizing morning flow + deeply restorative afternoon practice

Guided yogic breathing – nervous-system soothing tools you can use long after the retreat

Guided meditation – to clear mental clutter + reconnect with what matters

Lunch included – so you can fully relax into the day

The theme is Intention – slowing down just long enough to choose how you want to move into what’s next, instead of being dragged by it.

Our Story

Founded in 2011, I AM is a Tulsa based organization dedicated to uniting the yoga, art and music community through conscious events with the goal of raising awareness of the light within each human being. Our creative team pushes the boundaries creating memorable and transformational events and opportunities for expansion and growth both personally and as a community. We believe that uniting together in our community creates more sustainable change than working apart. We believe that all humans are the essence of love and we intentionally create experiences where that can be shared with as many as possible. We know that we are all deeply connected and celebrating that connection reminds of the love that exists between all human beings. We believe there is a new kind of revolution happening on the planet and we call it a LOVE REVOLUTION. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” -Martin Luther King A New Kind of Business The idea for I AM was said to be divinely inspired in one of those quiet moments of clarity, using courage and trust to move from a simple idea to physical manifestation. The I AM Creative Team that currently works to manifest the inspiration is a group of six friends, spending hours each week laughing, creating, loving and pushing their own boundaries of what is possible. When forming the business, we knew it had to be a different way. Using our core principles of love, oneness and responsibility, we continue to find unique ways to make our efforts are always in alignment with our values. I AM is more than a business, it’s more like a tribe, a village, a community. All I AM events are created in an effort to maintain a benefit to all involved, including the sustainability of our planet. As I AM explores the evolution of conscious business, we challenge ourselves to find creative ways to experience financial sustainability and long-term viability. Many people in many ways have interpreted yoga and we believe there is no one right way to experience yoga. Just as with many other philosophies and belief systems, the paths may be different but the goal is the same. Mostly, we understand that humans are seeking to be happy, know peace and experience love. Knowing that are many paths that lead a person to the destination, we find it valuable to honor all of the paths, uniting together to celebrate differences and diversity instead of focusing on consistency, sameness and conformity. A Festival to Celebrate Love, Connectedness, and Community The I AM yoga, art + music festival was first held in October 2011 with more than 700 attendees in a park in Bixby, OK. Bringing together musicians, artists and yogis in one place in the spirit of harmony, kindness and community. From the idea of the festival, a movement was put into place to go beyond one weekend a year but to continue to offer this celebration throughout the year. The I AM festival had more than 50 vendors in attendance, dozens of musicians and yoga instructors, educational and inspirational workshops, a kid’s zone, gypsy camp with belly dancing and camping. Each year, the I AM festival creates deeper connections as people come together in one of the most harmonious festivals in the area. Many people walk into the festival and can “feel” the difference as if something has suddenly come alive within them. The festival offers each person attending a chance to see a loving community working together, honoring one another and supporting all of the many paths through life. Vendors are set up throughout the festival, sharing life-enhancing and sustainable products and services.
