If your cart is not picked up on your regular service day, please leave it at the curb until it's able to be collected later this week.
Recycling will resume next week, with customers being allowed to put extra recyclables in a recyclable container (i.e. cardboard box) alongside their blue recycling cart.

Street Operations
Tulsa's arterial (main) roads have all been plowed/treated - with most now clear and passable. Public Works crews have spent the day addressing any slick spots and areas needing attention. Due to the potential for refreeze (which creates black ice) overnight, crews will report again at midnight to continue treating Tulsa's roads as needed.

As background, the City is responsible for clearing snow and ice from Tulsa's arterial roads and not most major highways, which is the responsibility of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). Additionally, highway on-and-off ramps are also the responsibility of ODOT.

As conditions continue to improve, Public Works crews will shift their focus from plowing to black ice response and emergency pothole repairs starting Tuesday.

Motorists are urged to continue to use caution, maintain distance from City plows and treatment vehicles, and never attempt to pass them while they are working.

Street Closures
‣ S. Elwood Ave. by Turkey Mountain - Reopening Tuesday

Public Works crews are applying brine (salt/water mixture) to Elwood tonight with the expectation that the road will reopen on Tuesday.

Waterline Breaks
City of Tulsa Water & Sewer personnel remain ready to respond to waterline breaks as they happen. Several new breaks have started appearing on the City's break board today, the largest of which was on 21st near Lewis earlier this morning. Water crews are continuing to get that waterline break fixed, in addition to the others listed on the board.

At this time, residents can:
‣ Check the City’s Waterline Break Board at www.cityoftulsa.org/breakboard
‣ Report unlisted breaks by calling (918) 596-9488

Weather Safety Reminders
As snow melts and refreezes, black ice can form. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert, decrease speed and increase following distance. Pedestrians should also take their time at home, on sidewalks, and in parking lots to limit the risk of falling.

• Monday customers should put their gray cart out on Tuesday, January 27, 2026
• Crews will collect gray carts as soon as conditions allow

• Twice-a-week customers will not have Saturday service this week.

Recycling service update:
• Recycling will resume the week of February 2, 2026.

A quick winter weather reminder from our crews:
When clearing your driveway or sidewalk along arterial streets, please do not shovel snow into the street. Our plows have to push it right back, which can send it straight into your yard. The best place for snow is on your grass or landscaped areas.

If you're hiring a snow removal service, please remind them not to push snow into the the roadway.

And a friendly safety note: snow shoveling is hard work. Take breaks, go slow, and watch for warning signs of heart stress like chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or unusual fatigue. Your health comes first.

What’s flex film? It’s the soft, stretchy plastic that can’t hold its shape. It doesn’t belong in your blue recycling cart.

Common examples of flex film include:
‣ Plastic grocery bags
‣ Bubble wrap
‣ Bread bags
‣ Dry cleaner bags
‣ Shrink wrap (like from water bottle cases)
‣ Chip bags and snack wrappers

These items contaminate clean recyclables. Even if it has a recycling symbol – if it’s soft and flexible, it goes in the gray trash cart.

Pro tip: Many grocery stores accept clean plastic bags for special recycling.
Let’s keep Tulsa recycling right.

♻️ Holiday Recycling Tips from Tulsa 🎄

The City of Tulsa reminds residents to recycle responsibly this holiday season! Blue carts can handle:
✅ Cardboard
✅ Loose paper
✅ Plastic bottles
✅ Aluminum & steel cans
✅ Non-metallic/foil wrapping paper

🚫 Avoid tanglers: Plastic wrap, string lights, plastic bags, clothing, and electronics can jam recycling machines.
