Let’s have some fun 🎤

What’s one thing you’ve ever lost your voice doing?

• Cheering at a game 🏈?
• Singing your heart out 🎶 ?
• Talking too much at a family event 😅?

We’ll share a few of our therapist-approved tips to protect your voice!

💧 Stay hydrated — your vocal cords need moisture! Aim for water, not caffeine or alcohol.

🤫 Avoid whispering when your voice is tired — it actually strains your cords more than gentle speech.

🎶 Warm up before heavy voice use — hum or do gentle glides (like “mmm” or “woo”) before teaching, singing, or public speaking.

🚭 Skip throat clearing — it slams your vocal cords together. Try sipping water or swallowing instead.

🌬️ Use good breath support — speak from your diaphragm, not your throat.

😴 Rest your voice — if you feel hoarse or tired, take vocal breaks to let things recover.

📞 Use a microphone — if you regularly speak to groups or noisy rooms, amplification saves strain.

If you have regular difficulty with your voice, we are here to help!

Did you know your throat and tongue muscles are among the hardest-working in your body?

👉 Try this: Swallow hard once and notice how many muscles move in your neck.

Did you feel movement under your chin, on the side of your neck, or both?

(Fun fact: Our SLPs can help retrain these muscles after stroke, injury, or surgery.)

💙Friendly Reminder/ PSA - Keep Your Medicare!
Open Enrollment Begins Soon (Oct 15–Dec 7)

Every year, we see patients get caught off guard by the fine print of Medicare Advantage plans. Please take a moment to understand the difference before making any changes during open enrollment.

Traditional Medicare + a secondary insurance
✅ Full coverage of therapy and medical services with minimal restrictions
✅ Freedom to choose any provider or facility nationwide that accepts Medicare
✅ No visit limits — your care continues as long as it’s medically necessary
✅ No prior authorization delays that interrupt treatment

Medicare Advantage Plans
❌ Often limit the number of therapy visits
❌ Require prior authorizations, causing delays or denials in care
❌ Restrict you to “in-network” providers
❌ Can result in unexpected costs and less access to specialized therapy

You’ll see lots of commercials this time of year — and even door-to-door or mall sales pitches promising money back each month. But that “extra” money often comes from your Medicare stipend, in exchange for giving up your freedom to choose your care.

We’ve had patients sign up thinking they were improving their coverage, only to discover later that they could no longer continue therapy or see their trusted providers. It breaks our hearts to see patients denied the care they need.

Please do your research before switching plans.
If you’re currently on an Advantage plan, you can switch back to Traditional Medicare between Oct 15 and Dec 7.

Your health and independence are worth protecting 💙
