πŸš”πŸ’™ Dallas Township Police Department Launches the Blue Envelope Program

The Dallas Township Police Department, in partnership with the Cougars for Autism Awareness Club at Misericordia University, is proud to announce the launch of the Blue Envelope Program β€” an initiative designed to improve communication and safety during interactions between law enforcement and autistic or neurodiverse drivers. The program is sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health.

The Blue Envelope Program is intended primarily for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but also supports drivers with other communication challenges, anxiety, or conditions that may affect their ability to respond during a traffic stop, crash, or similar encounter.

πŸ”ΉWhat’s Inside the Blue Envelope?
Drivers keep a Blue Envelope in their vehicle containing:
β€’ A copy of their license, registration, and insurance
β€’ Emergency contact information
β€’ A clear note explaining communication needs or sensitivities

The front of the envelope alerts officers that the driver may need additional time, space, or support, while the back provides quick guidance to help ensure the interaction is handled safely and calmly. Inside, a detailed information sheet explains how ASD can affect communication, comprehension, and responsiveness, and includes contact information for individuals who can provide medical or support details if needed.

The program is designed to reduce uncertainty during police encounters by promoting clearer communication, increased understanding, and safer outcomes for both drivers and officers.

βœ‰οΈ Pickup Opportunities: Blue Envelopes will be available at two Misericordia University distribution events:

Saturday, November 22, 2025 β€” 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Monday, December 1, 2025 β€” 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Millions of people with disabilities, like Sam, rely on food assistance to get by. But right now, that help is at risk. No one should have to choose between food, medicine, rent, or heat. Tell Congress to act now to prevent people from going hungry: https://bit.ly/4huQXn0
