Had to share this breastmilk medicine story! My 15 month old started running fever yesterday morning. No other symptoms really. She hasn’t been wanting to eat or drink from a cup. But she has been nursing almost constantly. I’ve been holding her in the wrap skin to skin (which can help bring fever down) and nursing her a TON. I noticed this morning that my milk smells a little different. Not bad different just a little butterier maybe? 😆 and it’s just gushing and leaking. So so much milk. It feels like early postpartum. Leaking everywhere, through pads, onto my pants, couch and anything near by. Squirting out 6 inches if she breaks off her latch when I’m having a letdown. I’m amazed at how my body is pumping her full of milk to hydrate her and give her antibodies. Our breasts know exactly what our baby needs. When you latch, glands on your ar**la assess your baby for whatever your baby needs. More water, fat, vitamins… Unique antibodies for the illness they have.
I’ve never had such a dramatic response to my baby’s illness like I do now. (And I’ve nursed 3 babies!) Breastfeeding is just amazing. She’s having plenty of diapers and sleeping and I know my milk is the best medicine. ❤️❤️❤️
