A mental breakdown, also referred to as a nervous breakdown, is a severe emotional and psychological crisis marked by a loss of control over thoughts and emotions. It is often triggered by prolonged or overwhelming stress. Symptoms may include emotional distress, anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, sleep disruptions, and behavioral changes.

Important Note: These symptoms may also be linked to other mental health conditions. If you or someone you know is experiencing these signs, it is vital to consult a mental health professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.

"Mental illness, also called mental health disorders, refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.

Many people have mental health concerns from time to time. But a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect your ability to function.

A mental illness can make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at school or work or in relationships. In most cases, symptoms can be managed with a combination of medications and talk therapy (psychotherapy).

If you have any signs or symptoms of a mental illness, see your primary care provider or a mental health professional. Most mental illnesses don't improve on their own, and if untreated, a mental illness may get worse over time and cause serious problems."

Endometriosis Awareness Month is observed annually in March. Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects millions of women and people with female reproductive organs worldwide.

It is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, on organs such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and bladder. This can cause pain, infertility, and other health problems.

After your procedure, what can you do?

You should allow yourself plenty of rest the day before and the day after the procedure to aid recovery.

🗣Please follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding post-procedure care, including dietary restrictions and medication recommendations.

It is safe for most individuals to return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours of having a colonoscopy, but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for a few days afterward, especially for those who had polyps removed or biopsies taken.

What foods can you eat after the procedure?

🗣️It is important that you follow the instructions given by your doctor.

The digestive system needs time to recover after a colonoscopy, so it is important to eat bland, easily digestible foods. Listed below are some foods that are recommended:

First 24 hours:
-Liquids that are clear: Water, broth, juice
-Foods that are bland: toast, rice, applesauce, pudding
-Vegetables that are soft: carrots, peas, potatoes

After 24 hours:
-Lean proteins such as chicken, fish, and tofu
-Eggs: boiled, scrambled
-Fruits: Bananas, apples, and pears
-Vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini steamed
-Rice, pasta, and bread

Avoid these foods:
-Spicy foods, fatty foods, raw vegetables, fruits with seeds, coffee, alcohol, or caffeine.

Additional Tips:
-Eat small, frequent meals.
-Avoid overeating.
-Drink plenty of fluids.

People may experience different levels of discomfort during recovery, and recovery times may vary. In the event of severe pain, vomiting, or fever, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Are colonoscopies painful?

In spite of the fact that colonoscopies are one of the most dreaded procedures, they prevent colon cancer very effectively. You might be able to save your life by enduring a day or two of discomfort.

For most people, colonoscopies don't hurt at all, so you don't need to worry about the procedure itself being painful. During most procedures, you will be completely sedated. Your procedure will be completed when you wake up. There are many people who say that they have no recollection of having a colonoscopy.
