Over last 12 years, we have thoroughly enjoyed serving the Tupelo and Lee County community retail market. We have had great employees serving wonderful members of the community, as well as providing stock and prescription drugs to the Tree of Life in Tupelo over the last decade.
Since the implementation of Obamacare's employer mandate, we have watched more and more employers forced to seek coverage for their employees by joining big commercial plans and using third party administrators. Those plans require employee drugs to be filled by mail order and national pharmacies, eliminating the employee's choice of pharmacy. The smaller local pharmacies like ours have found it more and more difficult to operate at a profit in this new environment.
ZipScripts has been serving the local retail market as well as providing institutional services to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. We also own and operate a sister pharmacy, AmPharm MS, LLC on the premises that serves only institutional facilities. This year we made the decision to merge the institutional services of ZipScripts into AmPharm MS, LLC, and discontinue retail services to the local market due to market conditions. AmPharm MS, LLC continues to operate in this space and has growth plans in the market for North Mississippi.
For ease and benefit of our retail customers, we have transferred our current customer prescriptions as of Friday to Walgreens at crosstown in Tupelo. Our customers may contact them for further information and obtaining refills.
