There’s something tender about this time of year — and something painful too. For many in our community, there’s an empty seat at the table, a familiar voice missing from the celebration, a memory that feels sharper than usual. If that’s you, please hear our heart… you are not forgotten.

At Mount Vernon Chapel, we hold space for your grief. We believe God meets us right in the middle of it, wrapping us in comfort, reminding us that love never really leaves. This holiday season, may you feel His nearness in ways you didn’t expect and His peace in the moments that feel the hardest.

Virginia Coker Todd

Tupelo, MS—Virginia Coker Todd, 90, born November 30, 1934, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at NMMC Hospice in Tupelo, MS. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Virginia lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for those she held dear. Virginia was the daughter of Virgil and Ruth Rorie Coker. Born and raised in Pontotoc County, Virginia grew up with a love for family, faith, and community.

As a young girl, she developed a passion for basketball—a sport she not only excelled in, but one she loved wholeheartedly throughout her life. Virginia married the love of her life, James “Jim” E. Todd, on September 14, 1957, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Their marriage was a lifelong partnership rooted in devotion to each other. A woman of deep and enduring faith, Virginia was a lifelong member of Monument Drive Baptist Church and later in life attended Victory Baptist Church in Pontotoc. Her church families were a treasured part of her life, and her faith guided her with grace and purpose. Her favorite Bible verse was Matthew 20:28 and she often spoke about Heaven during her life. Virginia’s heart was fullest when she was with her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her life. She enjoyed quiet pastimes that brought her comfort and joy, including collecting dolls, a cherished hobby for many years; she also had a tender love for animals and faithfully cared for her beloved cats. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Pam Stahl and Brandy Hall for their loving care of our “Granny”.

A private graveside service was held for the immediate family Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Pontotoc, MS officiated by Rev. Jay Stanley. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date for family and friends. Mt. Vernon Chapel is honored to be assisting the family during these times.

Carrying forward Virginia’s legacy are her children: Valerie Price (David) of Flowood, MS, and her cherished son, Bart Todd (Christy) of Belden, MS; grandchildren, Hunter Flynt (Serena) of Flowood, MS, Dustin Todd (Andrea) of Potomac, MD, Dr. Elizabeth Bills of Nashville, TN, Keegan Todd (Kayla) of Mooreville, MS; and great-grandchildren, Avalyn Bills, Louise and James Todd, Harrison and Hayes Flynt, and Carson Todd; Her loving sister, Rachel Jarrett; beloved brother-in-law Dock Graham; sister-in-law Oweda Todd; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members that knew and adored Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ruth Rorie Coker; her husband, James "Jim" E. Todd, and her sisters, Reba Graham and Helen McCarver, brother-in-laws: Mack McCarver, Quay Jarrett, and Boby Todd.

Condolences for the family may be left on Virginia's obituary page at mtvernonchapel.com.

We pause this Veterans Day to offer a sacred and eternal "Thank You."

At Mount Vernon Chapel, we know that true honor extends beyond a single day. It is woven into the fabric of the community you fought to protect. To every Veteran, and to the families who beside them, we are forever grateful for the selfless sacrifice that guarantees our freedom.

Your courage is the foundation upon which our community thrives.

Do you have a family member or friend to recognize today? We invite you to honor the lives and legacies of our local heroes by tagging a veteran or active service member in the comments and share a brief word of thanks. Or a picture of a loved one who served, and tell us their name and branch.

Let the light of their courage fill this space. May we never forget the cost of the ground beneath our feet. From the staff and family of Mount Vernon Chapel, thank you for your service.
