Happy National Winnie the Pooh Day!

Winnie the Pooh reminds us of something simple — and powerful: the importance of truly listening.

Whether it’s a friend sharing their day, a child telling a story, or a loved one saying “I love you,” hearing is how we stay connected to the people who matter most — and how we show up for one another.

Today is a sweet reminder that listening supports emotional wellness, deeper relationships, and meaningful moments we never want to miss.

January is National Self-Care Month

Self-care is more than rest and routines — it’s about caring for every part of your well-being, including your hearing.

Untreated hearing loss is closely linked to mental health challenges, feelings of loneliness, and cognitive decline. When we struggle to hear, we often withdraw from conversations and the connections that keep us engaged and fulfilled.

As we begin a new year, consider making hearing health part of your self-care plan. Prioritizing your hearing supports clearer communication, stronger relationships, and a healthier mind. Come visit us at Red Maple Audiology to have your hearing checked.

Because taking care of yourself means staying connected to the world around you.

Did you know that in the U.S., about 2 to 3 out of every 1,000 children are born with a detectable level of hearing loss in one or both ears?

That might not sound like a lot — but when you consider how many babies are born every year, it adds up to thousands of children who could benefit from early care and support. Early detection is especially important: as the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) notes, “infants who are born deaf or hard-of-hearing have a better chance of learning language if the hearing loss is identified immediately after birth.”

Let’s spread awareness and support hearing checks for newborns. 👶🦻

A new year is a great reminder to check in on your hearing. Just like vision and dental exams, an annual hearing check helps you stay aware of changes and protect your hearing long term.

Making hearing health part of your yearly routine can help you hear your best all year long.

Happy New Year!

Sometimes AI is fun! We asked ChatGPT to create a Word Cloud from our Google Reviews & this is the result. Absolutely love seeing the key themes of real experiences with our team.

One of the key words **family** really stands out to us - when Dr. Ashlee opened the practice (almost 6 years ago!), our tag line was "Hear your family" or "Here, you're family". Six years later, that still stands true. We love our patients and sharing life events with them; we also love our team that has become an extended part of our family.

Did you know diabetes can also impact your hearing health?

Studies show people with diabetes are twice as likely to experience hearing loss. High blood sugar levels can damage the tiny blood vessels and nerves in the inner ear, reducing your ability to hear clearly over time.

The good news? Regular hearing checkups can help detect early changes and protect your hearing for the long run.

This month, take charge of your total health — schedule both your annual health screening and your hearing evaluation.

Dr. Ashlee holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), is Certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABAC), and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

“I am so excited to be launching my private practice, Red Maple Audiology, here in my hometown of Turner, Maine! It has been my dream since embarking on an education in Audiology to bring best-practice care in a patient-first, family-oriented practice. After providing services in nearby Lewiston, Maine, for over 7 years, the opportunity arose to take this next step in my career. I am looking forward to being closer to my family and being able to give back to our community in new ways.” -Dr. Ashlee
