Today we honor Lieutenant Colonel William Ward of the United States Air Force.

“Serving as Chief, Immunology and Molecular Diagnostics Branch at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center is where my career in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics began.”

He shared that he no longer has photos from those years, but this portrait was taken for a veteran’s story created by his granddaughter.

Thank you, Lt. Col. Ward, for your 24 years of service and the impact you continue to make in the field.

Today we honor Sergeant Nick Borcherding of the United States Marine Corps.

“One day in Iraq we started with a 20-kilometer hike, paused for an IED, ran a convoy to Mosul, and after 18 hours out, got a flat tire on the way back. I remember laughing and thinking, ‘of course.’ That was the day I learned the Marine Corps’ real lesson, resilience. Which, as it turns out, is the exact same skill you need for peer review.”
