Allergists are specially trained to find the source of your allergy and asthma symptoms and treat them so you can feel healthy. Once they’ve received their medical degree and have completed a 3-year residency program, allergists complete 2 or 3 years of fellowship training in asthma, allergy & immunology.

Always look for a board-certified and fellowship-trained allergist to find a doctor who is an expert in treating allergies and asthma. Why? Allergies and asthma are their entire focus, and they know all the best and latest treatments to help patients get control of their symptoms.

Back to School Is Far from Normal for Kids with Allergies and Asthma

Parents all over the country are concerned with what the beginning of the school year will look like for their children. Whether remote, in-person or a hybrid, parents of kids with allergies and asthma will need to make sure their child’s symptoms are under control. Students will have new protocols in place as they try to keep allergies and asthma under control
As cases of COVID-19 surge in many communities, parents are asking themselves how will they keep their child and their family safe. Adding allergies and asthma to the risks being faced adds
another layer of concern.

Here are 6 factors to consider as you prepare your child with allergies or asthma for a school
year that includes being in a classroom with other children.
1. Breathing well with a mask
2. Does your child have a fever? Stay home!
3. Allergy symptoms will likely not go away
4. Keep the flu away!
5. Bringing lunch to school
6. Have an allergy treatment plan

BACK TO SCHOOL WITH ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA

School is just around the corner. With all the excitement of new teachers, new classes, maybe even a new school, don’t forget to check off the following items that may pertain to your allergic or asthmatic child:

Prepare an Anaphylaxis Action Plan – and make sure your Epipen hasn’t expired!

Have an Asthma Action Plan – know what symptoms to recognize and the proper response.

Create a Food Allergy Statement & Action Plan – it’s best to develop a written plan with school staff and to learn how students with food allergies are kept safe.

Make sure all immunizations are up to date

Kids with allergies or asthma will also benefit from getting back into a good sleep schedule and learning healthy food choices so their nutritional needs are met and ready to power their brains and bodies into the new school year!

Have a great school year!
