Fun Fact Friday 🖤

In honor of International Women's Day this Sunday (March 8), here’s a look at one of the women whose discoveries helped shape modern medical imaging.

Scientist Marie Curie spent years studying radiation and went on to discover the elements polonium and radium in the early 1900s.

Her research helped scientists better understand how radiation behaves, knowledge that later contributed to technologies used in X-rays, CT scans, and radiation therapy today.

More than a century later, the science behind modern imaging still traces back to her work.

Preventive imaging focuses on identifying potential health concerns early, often before symptoms appear.

These exams are designed for people with certain risk factors, such as age, family history, or lifestyle considerations, and are meant to supplement, not replace, regular check-ups with your provider.

Preventive imaging allows for proactive care, earlier intervention, and greater peace of mind.

Interested in preventive imaging? Talk with your provider or contact us to learn more about available screening options.

Fun (Radiology) Fact Friday 🖤

In 1898, X-rays were used to study an ancient Egyptian mummy.

Radiologists were able to see amulets and jewelry hidden within the wrappings, without disturbing the delicate linens that had been in place for thousands of years.

Seeing without unwrapping has been part of radiology from the very beginning.

Preventive care is an important way to care for yourself, and mammography plays a key role in breast health.

A screening mammogram can help detect changes early, often before symptoms appear, giving providers valuable information to guide next steps.

Taking time for your health is an act of care, today and for the future.

Screening mammograms are available as walk-ins Monday–Friday from 1–4 p.m., and by appointment on Saturdays.

If you have questions about breast imaging, talk with your healthcare provider about what’s right for you.

Before advanced imaging, before digital systems, before the clinic you know today, The Radiology Clinic began in a simple wooden building right here in Tuscaloosa. Founded by Dr. William D. Anderson, one of Alabama’s first radiology specialists.

No fancy equipment. No modern technology. Just a commitment to care, accuracy, and showing up for this community.

Decades later, the walls may have changed.
The technology has evolved.
But our purpose remains the same.

This is where the story of The Radiology Clinic began, and it’s one we’re proud to carry forward together.
