ARC formed in 1999 to promote the delivery of the safe and effective practice of Aromatherapy through registration of Aromatherapists. By providing a standard testing experience, it is assured that the aromatherapist has a quality level of education.

In order to provide an objective assessment method, the ARC Registration Examination in Aromatherapy (composed of 250 multiple-choice questions) is prepared by ARC with the advice and assistance of the Professional Testing Corporation (PTC). The exam is administered by Prometric at various testing locations around the world.
