Many families don’t realize just how important the DD-214 is when you’re trying to claim veteran burial benefits. This official document outlines a veteran’s service record, including their dates of service and whether or not they received an honorable discharge.

If you do not have this documentation on hand, the process of receiving burial benefits can become delayed or more stressful. That’s why it’s best to go ahead and request the form long before you actually need it.
