🧪 February is about Hazardous Substances & Safe Chemical Disposal 🧪
Many products we use every day—like cleaners, automotive fluids, pesticides, and paints—contain hazardous ingredients that can harm our health and the environment if handled or thrown away incorrectly. Improper disposal (like pouring chemicals down the sink or tossing them in the trash) can lead to pollution, injury, or dangerous reactions.

👉 Learn what household hazardous waste (HHW) is and how to manage it safely:
🔗 EPA Household Hazardous Waste Info: epa.gov/hw/household-hazardous-waste-hhw

👉 Find guidance on hazardous waste basics, recycling, and disposal:
🔗 EPA Hazardous Waste Basics: epa.gov/hw/learn-basics-hazardous-waste

Taking a few simple steps to identify, store, and dispose of chemicals properly helps protect your family and our local environment.

Keeping kids safe on the road starts with the right seat at the right stage. Car seats and boosters protect children best when they match their age, size, and development — not just their birthday.

❤️ February is Heart Month ❤️

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women—but small, everyday habits can make a big difference.

Move your body. Eat more fruits and veggies. Get enough sleep. Know your numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar).

Taking care of your heart today helps you feel better tomorrow.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

Preventive care saves lives. Routine Pap tests and HPV screenings can find changes early—often before cancer develops.

Making time for your annual screening is one of the most important things you can do for your long-term health. No symptoms doesn’t mean no risk.

If you’re due for a cervical cancer screening, make yourself a priority and schedule your preventive visit today. If you don't have a provider, you can schedule an appointment with our Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. Your future self will thank you.

Residents are strongly encouraged to stay home and off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Limiting travel helps keep you safe and allows emergency responders, road crews, and utility workers to operate more effectively during this weather event.
Citizens should also prepare for a prolonged stay at home, especially if conditions worsen or power outages occur. Please take time now to:
• Ensure you have adequate food, water, and medications for several days
• Charge phones and essential devices
• Check heating sources and safely prepare backup heat if available
• Gather flashlights, batteries, and other emergency supplies
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those who may need assistance

Carbon monoxide is called the “silent killer” for a reason. It’s a colorless, odorless gas that can build up in your home without warning.

Protect your household by taking a few simple steps:
- Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home
- Test detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed
- Keep fuel-burning appliances properly maintained
- Never run vehicles or generators in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces

If your carbon monoxide detector sounds, get outside to fresh air immediately and call 911.

A few minutes of prevention can save lives. Stay safe this winter.

Did you know a baby’s saliva can actually help change the makeup of breastmilk to meet their needs?

When a baby nurses, their backwash sends signals to the mother’s body, helping adjust antibodies, hydration, and nutrients based on what baby needs at that moment. The human body is incredible.

If you’re pregnant and interested in learning more about how breastfeeding works — and how to feel confident getting started — join us for our prenatal breastfeeding class. We'll cover what to expect, how to prepare, and how to get support in those early days.
