🚗🎃 Halloween Safety Reminder! 👻🧡

As you head out for trick-or-treating fun, don’t forget: bulky costumes and coats can make car seats less safe. Extra padding can keep harness straps from fitting snugly, putting kids at risk in a crash.

Before buckling your little ghosts and superheroes in the car, remove thick costume layers and secure them properly. Once safely buckled, you can add a blanket or jacket over the straps to keep them warm.

Let’s keep our kiddos both festive and safe this Halloween! 🎃✨ Stay spooky, buckle safely!

It's National Fire Prevention week 🔥🔥🔥

This year the focus is on Lithium-Ion batteries in your home. These batteries are in many common household items. Here's 3 steps to "Charge into Fire Safety" and keep yourself and others safe when using these products
1. Buy only listed products. When buying products that uses a lithium-ion battery look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This means it meets important safety standards.
2. Charge devices safely. Always use the cords that came with the product to charge. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Buy new chargers from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. Charge your device on a hard surface. Don't overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it's fully charged.
3. Recycle batteries responsibly. Don't throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.

Continue to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites

🦟 Use insect repellent with DEET, picaridin or IR3535.
🦟 Wear long sleeves and pants when outside, especially at dawn and dusk.
🦟 Dump out standing water.
🦟 Make sure your door and window screens are secure

Cases of West Nile virus (WNV) are rising across Missouri and the rest of the country. This infection often causes no symptoms, but about 1 in 5 people may develop a flu-like illness with fever, headache or body aches. In rare cases, especially in older adults or people with weakened immune systems, it can cause serious problems like swelling of the brain or spinal cord and/or paralysis.

Missouri currently has 16 human cases of West Nile virus, resulting in 15 hospitalizations and three deaths. This is a large increase compared to previous years.

🦟 Use insect repellent with DEET, picaridin or IR3535.
🦟 Wear long sleeves and pants when outside, especially at dawn and dusk.
🦟 Dump out standing water.
🦟 Make sure your door and window screens are secure.
