A hypertonic (overactive) pelvic floor doesn’t just show up as “tight muscles.”

It can affect how you p*e, p**p, move, feel, and connect.

Bladder symptoms.
Bowel dysfunction.
Pain with s*x.
Nerve pain.
Hip, back, tailbone, and pelvic joint pain.

These are not random.
They’re often signs of a pelvic floor that’s stuck in protection.

January is about letting go of what no longer serves you... like a pelvic floor that’s been working overtime (no clenching!)

It’s about resetting the nervous system, restoring coordination, and teaching the pelvic floor that it’s safe to let go.

Healing starts with regulation, not pushing harder.

A dysregulated nervous system = a guarded pelvic floor.

A guarded pelvic floor = slowed lymphatic flow.

Slowed lymph = waste buildup.

Waste buildup = inflammation.

You can’t detox a body stuck in survival mode.

You can’t drain tissue that never feels safe enough to soften.

Blood delivers.

Nerves regulate.

Lymph cleans.

Miss one, and healing is delayed.

The body doesn’t suffer because it’s “toxic.” It suffers when it can’t drain, especially through the pelvis!

The lymphatic system isn’t optional.

Neither is a pelvic floor that can move, soften, and respond.

Your tongue is part of your fascial system!👅

Treating tension in the tongue can release restrictions all the way down your body through the deep front line of fascia that connects your tongue to your neck, diaphragm, pelvic floor, and even your toes.

This is why addressing oral tension (from clenching, tongue ties, mouth breathing, etc.) can change how you breathe, how you walk, and even how your pelvis feels.

The body is deeply connected, and sometimes the root of your hip or pelvic pain might just be… your tongue.💡

The pelvis influences the head, and vice versa. Don’t treat one without the other!!!

You are connected from head to pelvis not only through fascial trains but also through something called The Dural Tube. This is Dural Tube restriction in action.

The Dural Sheath that surrounds your brain and spinal cord attaches to the tailbone, the Thoracic Spine (T4-T6), the base of the skull, inside the roof of your mouth (the sphenoid bone), and on the cranial bones.

Check out the pull coming from Dr. Alexa’s pelvis into her neck and head. She has a history of a significant tailbone injury from multiple falls during her years as a soccer player and a history of a pelvic floor that is too tense.

If you’ve tried traditional pelvic floor therapy that has only treated inside the box, put on your detective hat and keep connecting the dots…🕵️🔎

Trying to figure out what’s behind your stubborn glute or posterior hip pain?

It’s not always straightforward… and often, it’s not just about the hip.

This area is a busy crossroads for multiple structures that can mimic each other when irritated or overloaded. Some common culprits include:

– Lumbar spine referral
– Hip joint pathology
– Obturator internus (a deep pelvic floor muscle)
– Adductor tendinopathy
– Ischiofemoral impingement
– Pudendal neuralgia
– Sacral stress fracture
– SI joint pain
– Gluteal tendinopathy
– Piriformis syndrome

Many of these diagnoses can overlap with pelvic floor dysfunction. Why? Because the hip, pelvis, and pelvic floor are structurally and functionally linked.

For example, a tight obturator internus or overloaded adductor may affect pelvic floor muscle tension or coordination, contributing to symptoms like tailbone pain, pelvic pressure, or even pain with s*x or sitting.

Pain in this region varies person to person. It might show up as sit bone pain, deep buttock ache, pinching with hip movement, or nerve-like symptoms. And while it’s tempting to chase the exact pain spot, location alone rarely tells the full story.

A thorough pelvic PT evaluation considers all of this, helping you uncover the true driver, rather than just treating symptoms.

If you’ve been stuck in a cycle of glute pain and pelvic discomfort, don’t give up. There is a way through. It starts with zooming out and looking at the whole picture.

2025, the Year of the Snake, invited transformation.

What a year!

We shed our old skin as Sarton Physical Therapy and evolved into Sarton Pelvic Healing. After 6 months of intention and hard work, we launched a website we dreamed of for years and stepped more fully into who we’ve always been.

As we close out 2025, our hearts are full of gratitude.

To our patients, followers, and beautiful village of healers… thank you for trusting us, healing alongside us, and evolving with us.

This year brought growth in every sense: new babies, a marriage, a high school graduation, and welcoming incredible new team members: Dr. Jessica (extraordinary pelvic PT) and Jade (rockstar patient support).

We continued to invest deeply in learning and teaching (hello, Pelvic Education Alliance & 111K IG followers), and our out-of-town program grew with patients traveling from Switzerland and Slovakia.

As we step into 2026, we’ll celebrate 16 years in Tustin and Dr. Julie’s 30 years as a PT, with exciting courses for patients and mentoring for clinicians ahead.

Hop over to our new website (see link in bio) & thanks again for being part of this journey!💜🙏

MCAS is not just an allergy issue.

We often see it intertwined with pelvic pain, bladder symptoms, gut dysfunction, heat sensitivity, and food triggers.

Endometriosis usually doesn’t occur in isolation.

There are often a cluster of other diagnoses and symptoms that accompany Endo that we have seen in many of our patients over the years.

These include, but are not limited to:

✔️POTS (severe issues with heart rate and blood pressure - difficulty adapting to changes in movement and activity)
✔️ GI pain/bloating/SIBO
✔️ Decreased ability to methylate (detox) known as MTHFR snp
✔️ Tailbone pain
✔️ Low back pain
✔️ Gastroperesis/constipation
✔️ CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome)
✔️ Vestibulodynia
✔️ IC/bladder pain
✔️ Mast cell issues
✔️ A functional neurologic disorder making walking difficult
✔️ Adenomyosis

Successful treatment must go after each of the conditions that are found to be present!!

Our Story

Sarton Physical Therapy was created to deliver hope and healing for life altering pelvic floor conditions: pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, pain with s*x, pudendal neuralgia, incontinence, interstitial cystitis, tailbone pain, coccyx pain, and other related disorders. We also offer expert care in pre and postpartum needs. We are led by a team of practitioners unmatched in experience and years of training.

Our mission is to deliver exceptional and unparalleled quality of care while providing every patient with a distinctive healing program that integrates the most current evidence based PT treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction.

Pelvic health is one of the last and often poorly understood frontiers for both men and women. Currently, many suffer in silence or search relentlessly for answers, only to become frustrated by a lack of true understanding and expertise in the medical community. Sarton Physical Therapy practitioners understand that pelvic pain, s*xual pain, pelvic organ prolapse or urinary leakage have the power to influence every aspect of one's existence—the ability to enjoy work, play, life, family and personal relationships. Many patients often wonder, "Am I the only one? What is wrong with me? Why is it so difficult to find help?" Fortunately, help is available to both men and women who do not need to suffer in isolation.
