Cash came in not too long ago with a brave face and a strawberry fit on to get some bloodwork done! 🍓🐾

Pets on phenobarbital to control seizures should get regular testing to monitor and assure adequate therapeutic levels to avoid toxicity!

Waking up from surgery's hard...but Sable's a trooper! Sable, our lovely receptionist Angela's very own, had a growth removed from her left front paw on Monday! Within a few weeks her paw should be healed up and she can go back to playing without that pesky growth ruining her fun! ❤️

It's important to have your veterinarian check out any growths you notice on your pets to determine if the mass is harmless or should be removed to prevent growth and damage to nearby tissue!

Late post, but we can't miss out on talking about National Mutt day! 🐾

Celebrating mixed dog breeds, today is important for bringing awareness to the many mutts in animal shelters that are overlooked in favor of their purebred counterparts. Research shows that over half of the dogs in the United States are mixed breeds, thus making them the largest number of abandoned and euthanized dogs!

Take today and all the days to celebrate and embrace the loveable qualities of mixed dog breeds! 🫶

Due to the Panleukopenia outbreak passing through our community, we just wanted to make a post discussing the importance of vaccinating your cats with FVRCP!

Feline Panleukopenia (also knows as feline distemper) is a highly contagious and often fatal disease of cats! It mainly affects unvaccinated cats and sadly kittens have the highest risk!

The virus can be spread through direct contact with an infected cat, objects such as food/water dishes, bedding, litter boxes, or a person's hands/clothing/shoes. Vaccination is a highly effective way in protecting your cats due to the fact the virus is everywhere in the enviornment and can survive for a long time, so an unvaccinated cat can be infected by an area where a sick cat was, even if the sick cat isn't there anymore. The virus can live in your home and yard for years unless properly removed with cleaning products and disinfectant.

FPV symptoms include vomitting, diarrhea, lethargy, lack of appetite/drinking, and fever. Also some symptoms are not always present, so if you notice any of these symptoms, it's important to report them to your veterinarian immediately to promptly begin diagnostics and supportive care!

While there's no cure, hospitalization for intravenous fluid therapy, antibiotics, and other treatments is their best chance of survival. We are incredibly sorry to anyone who has to deal with the effects of this brutal disease. ❤️

Winston's curious if you knew dogs and cats get their stool tested too?
We recommend annual stool testing to check for internal parasites such as roundworms, whipworms, and giardia!
These can cause illnesses that result in death! Prompt testing of their f***l can ensure the best treatment plan! 🐾

Maple's curious if you have a cat reaching their golden years?
We recommend annual blood testing for cats ages 9 and older. And for cats over 12yrs, we recommend a senior disease screening which includes chest x-rays, blood-work, and urinalysis to make sure your cats is aging as gracefully as they can be!

Have a new puppy apart of the family?
We recommend getting a Spay at 5-6 months and a Neuter at 7-12 months! Always have an exam beforehand with your doctor to discuss any concerns and make sure your pet is healthy and ready for their big day!

Today's post features Lucy! A shy but super sweet border collie mix! ❤️

🪥 We recommend dental care as needed (assessed by a Doctor) for your pets and recommend at home brushing - ideally daily, but twice a week is also very beneficial!

We also recommend offering C.E.T. Chews and Greenies as well! 💚

🎃🐾 Halloween Pet Safety Tips! 🐾🎃

Halloween is a fun and spooky time for families—but it can be frightening or dangerous for pets if we’re not careful. Here are some simple ways to keep your furry friends safe:

🍫 Keep candy out of paws’ reach – Chocolate, xylitol (found in sugar-free candy), and even raisins can be toxic to pets. Store treats high and sealed tight!

🚪 Secure doors, gates, and yards – With trick-or-treaters constantly coming and going, it’s easy for pets to slip out. Make sure your pet has a collar, ID tag, and microchip just in case.

🧙‍♀️ Choose safe costumes – If your pet wears a costume, make sure it’s comfortable, non-restrictive, and doesn’t block their sight or breathing. Never leave them unattended in costume.

💡 Be mindful of decorations – Wires, candles, and glow sticks can look like toys but can cause burns or stomach upset. Keep décor out of reach and use flameless candles when possible.

🎆 Create a quiet space – Loud noises, strange visitors, and flashing lights can stress out pets. Provide a calm room with their favorite bed, toys, and some soothing background noise.

🧡 From all of us at Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Animal Control, we wish you and your pets a safe, happy, and treat-filled Halloween!
