🌾 The Work Behind the Magic 🐴
When you visit our ranch, it’s easy to focus on the arena, the horses, and the moments that happen during each session… but there’s so much more happening across our 20 acres that makes it all possible.
Caring for a space like this is a daily commitment. From maintaining fences and irrigating pastures, to dragging arenas, cleaning pens, w**d control, and making sure every corner is safe and welcoming—this work never really stops.
Why does it matter?
Because every task, big or small, directly impacts:
✨ The safety of our riders and volunteers
✨ The health and wellbeing of our horses
✨ The quality of each session we provide
✨ The longevity of our program
A well-cared-for ranch isn’t just about appearances—it’s about creating a space where both horses and humans can thrive.
It takes a village, and we are so grateful for every volunteer, staff member, and supporter who helps keep this place running strong. 💙
Next time you’re here, take a look around… the magic doesn’t just happen in the saddle—it’s built into the land itself.

🐴 Why Breaks Matter for Our Horses 💙
In between sessions, you may notice our horses getting a little “downtime”—and that’s not by accident. Those breaks are essential to their health, happiness, and ability to do the incredible work they do.
Just like people, horses need time to rest and reset. These moments allow their muscles to relax, their minds to decompress, and their energy to recharge. Therapeutic riding is incredibly rewarding, but it also asks a lot of our equine partners—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
By building in intentional breaks, we are:
✨ Preventing fatigue and injury
✨ Supporting long-term soundness
✨ Keeping our horses engaged and willing
✨ Honoring the care and respect they deserve
Our horses give so much to our riders each day. Taking time to care for them ensures they can continue changing lives—one ride at a time.
Next time you see a horse resting between sessions, just know… they’ve earned it. 💙
Lessons start up NEXT WEEK!

We have some exciting news to share! Thanks to a generous grant, our program will soon be welcoming a brand-new Equicizer, and we want your help naming it.
An Equicizer is a life-size mechanical horse that helps our riders safely practice balance, position, and riding skills. It’s a wonderful tool for building confidence, strengthening core muscles, training volunteers, and allowing more participants to get involved—even before they’re ready to ride one of our horses.
To celebrate this new addition, we’re hosting a Name the Equicizer Contest!
Here’s how it works:
• Submit your name ideas
• Our staff will choose their favorite finalists
• Our community will vote to pick the winning name (winner will also receive some Rising Stars Swag!)
We’re looking for something fun, creative, and meaningful to our program. If you have a great idea, we’d love to hear it!

We try really hard to keep everyone safe around here. Do we always succeed?
No.
Because they are horses. And horses wake up every day with ✨independent thoughts✨.
This week Ranchero decided to be extra dramatic and booked himself an overnight stay at the vet clinic in Albion. No permission slip. No warning. Just vibes.
The good news? He’s home now on strict “house arrest,” acting like nothing happened. 🙃
We are so incredibly thankful for the amazing vets who answer our million questions, tolerate our panic, and show up when our horses decide to test our blood pressure.
This little adventure came in at about $700 between vet care, staff wages, and fuel. Just another normal day in horse life.
If you’d like to make a donation in honor of Ranchero’s dramatic debut as “Patient of the Week,” you can do so below. Every dollar helps us keep these big personalities healthy and sound — especially on the surprise vet-trip days.
Thank you for loving them (and their chaos) right along with us. 💛
