Light travels in waves that usually scatter in all directions. But when light reflects off flat surfaces like water, snow, or pavement, it gets concentrated in one direction—horizontally. That horizontal light is what causes glare.
Polarized sunglasses are designed to block horizontal light. They only let in vertical light, which cuts glare dramatically and helps you see more clearly and comfortably.
Non-polarized lenses, on the other hand, reduce brightness of all directions of light equally—but they don’t specifically target horizontal light and glare.
