Do you have experience with substance use disorder (SUD)? Have a conversation with us, and we’ll buy you a coffee (tea, smoothie, etc) for your time.

Wilderness Health wants to learn more about the challenges, victories, and stories around substance use. We're interested in the perspectives of people in active use, loved ones of those who use, and/or professionals in the treatment and recovery space.

If you are willing to share your experience, please email hil.nordland@wildernesshealthmn.org.

Wilderness Health’s Laura Rosier presented to the attendees of a two day perinatal, substance use disorder (SUD), and trauma workshop. Laura shared education on the importance of overdose response, naloxone training, and how to effectively use drug testing strips.

The two day conference provided participants with deeper insight into how shame, stigma, and systems interact in the perinatal and familial ecosystem. Discussions highlighted the need for conversations on supports for individual patient needs.

Thanks to Dr. Steve Delisi and Jordan Hansen from YourPath and Mallory Cummings from Aspirus St. Luke’s for hosting this important workshop and discussion!

This year, let’s leave stigma behind. By replacing judgment with curiosity, we can build the kinds of relationships that empower pregnant people to access consistent prenatal care.

People who use substances while pregnant have options for recovery. Here are some resources that can help.

💡Did You Know?💡
Free nasal naloxone (commonly known as Narcan) is available right here in our community and anyone can carry it - no prescription needed. The Carlton County Drug Prevention Coalition has set up 7 Naloxone Access Points throughout Carlton County that carry overdose prevention kits.

Look for a cabinet like the one here at one of these seven locations:

📍Carlton County Government Services Building (1307 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet)
📍Community Memorial Hospital Emergency Room entrance (512 Skyline Blvd, Cloquet)
📍Brightwater Health Outreach Center (formerly HDC) (24 10th St, Cloquet)
📍Moose Lake Community Center (313 Elm Ave, Moose Lake)
📍WebMed Cloquet (1001 Avenue B, Cloquet)
📍United Way of Carlton County (902 Hwy 33, Cloquet)

Overdoses can happen to anyone - a neighbor, a friend, a family member, or a stranger - including people taking prescription pain medication. Naloxone reverses opioid overdoses and is safe, easy to use, and legal to carry. Having it on hand could mean the difference between life and death. You may never need it - but if you do, it could save a life.

Please share this post so more people know where to find help.

Would you like a Naloxone Access Point at your business or organization? We are looking for more partners. Please fill out this brief form so that we can get in touch with you. https://forms.gle/snuJM8GynsmNgVCN9

💛 A Message of Care and Connection This Holiday Season 💛

As the holiday season approaches, we want to acknowledge that while this time of year can bring joy and connection, it can also feel difficult or overwhelming for some. If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone—and support is available.

Su***de prevention is a shared responsibility. The St. Louis County Su***de Prevention Coalition brings together community members, educators, public health leaders, mental health providers, and local partners who are committed to strengthening awareness, reducing barriers to support, improving systems of care, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

As we move through the holidays, we encourage everyone to check in on one another, reach out when things feel heavy, and ask for help when needed. If you or someone you know needs support—or guidance on how to help a friend or loved one—988 is available by call or text, 24 hours a day.

If you are interested in learning more about the coalition, sharing ideas, or joining this effort, we welcome you. Please reach out to coalition chair Josh Gorham at gorhamj@stlouiscountymn.gov
on behalf of the St. Louis County Su***de Prevention Coalition.

From all of us involved in this work, we wish you care, connection, and compassion this season—and a reminder that help and hope are always within reach.

Rock Ridge High School CORE and CNA students met with Laura Rosier from Wilderness Health to provide feedback on her Opioid Overdose presentation. They answered everything from "what parts were boring?" to "were there words you were unfamiliar with/what should I explain more?" They also answered important questions to help improve the presentation and ensure it was understandable, relatable, and engaging. Along with providing feedback, students were learning along the way about the signs of overdose and how to respond. 💬

Great work, students, having a real world impact! 👏👍
