Yesterday, one of our clients asked me why I became a midwife. It led to me talking about how midwifery is so much more than catching babies. That is just a small part of what we actually do. Midwifery is about taking care of moms. Helping them learn and grow. Empowering them to make the decisions that they feel are best for them and their babies.

Midwifery is not just about birth —
it’s about education, advocacy, and continuity of care.

It’s about building relationships over time, listening deeply, and supporting families through every stage of the childbearing year. From prenatal visits to postpartum support, midwives walk alongside families with knowledge, compassion, and trust at the center of care.

This is care that is informed, relational, and deeply human.

Our Story

Mercy Eizenga LM, CPM was the head midwife and owner of Comforts of Home Midwifery for 12 years. She recently teamed up with Cherished Birth Center to offer home and birth center births in Tyler, TX and most of East Texas.

Mercy was first exposed to homebirth when she witnessed the birth of her little brother at the age of 7. Her interest in natural childbirth grew with the birth of her first child and then attending Bradley Natural Childbirth classes with a friend a year and a half later. Attending her first birth as a doula verified that she was called to be a midwife. Mercy attended the Association of Texas Midwives Training Program and completed an apprenticeship with what is now the Corpus Christi Birth Center. She holds a Texas state license, is listed with the state of Oklahoma, and holds her Certified Professional Midwife with the North American Registry of Midwives.
