Our friends at the Tyler Economic Development Council recently shared these photos of the groundbreaking of the Hollywood Theater in the late 1990s — the very building that will soon become Bethesda’s new home.

It’s incredible to see something come full circle.

The clinic fits so naturally inside this space that it’s hard not to feel that God intended this building to be a place of healing long before it was ever a movie theater.

We are deeply grateful for the many blessings, partnerships, and moments of faith that have led to this dream becoming a reality. 💙

Progress continues on our new facility! Crews are currently working on underground plumbing installation and early structural work, important steps that lay the foundation for everything that comes next.

Over the coming weeks, teams will also begin steel installation and roof curb work, moving the project further toward the next phase of construction.

Every milestone brings us closer to a space that will allow Bethesda to serve more patients, expand care, and continue meeting the needs of our community.

For more than 15 years, Maria has trusted Bethesda to care for her family.

But Bethesda isn't the only organization that she turns to for support.

Through partnerships with the East Texas Food Bank and St. Paul Children's Services, families can receive groceries as well.

“I feel so cared for after visiting the pantry,” Maria shared. “Sometimes they give us fruit or onions, and that kind of help benefits us a lot.”

Bethesda’s care has supported Maria and her children for years. “The clinic has always been good to not only my children but to me too,” she said. “They’ve always been so helpful.”

Together with community partners, we’re helping families access the care and nourishment they need. 🌱

"I specialize in working with adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and interpersonal challenges. The adolescent years come with navigating relationships, identity, school stress, family dynamics and life transitions. My role is to help make sense of these experiences and develop the confidence to handle life's challenges, big or small."

Volunteer Spotlight: Dr. Ray Scardina 🤩

After 40 years practicing psychiatry, Dr. Ray Scardina retired… but he wasn’t ready to stop serving.

To our great excitment, he brought his expertise to Bethesda Pediatrics.

Dr. Scardina is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist — a specialty that has always been rare in East Texas. Throughout his career, only a small number of child psychiatrists have served this entire region.

Now, he volunteers his time helping Bethesda care for children with complex mental health and developmental needs.

Dr. Scardina works closely with pediatric providers like Dr. Price, offering consultation and guidance on challenging cases. He also helps lead one of the region’s most unique services: a multidisciplinary autism assessment program that has supported East Texas families for more than 20 years.

His goal is simple: help families get clear answers and the right next steps for their child.

After four decades in practice, Dr. Scardina says it’s incredibly rewarding to continue using his experience to support the next generation.

We’re grateful he chose Bethesda to continue that work.❤❤❤
