NET Health

NET Health Our mission is to Prevent Illness, Promote Health & Protect Our Northeast Texas Communities.

Since 1900, 30 years have been added to the average life span of Smith County Residents. Of this, 25 of those years are due to Public Health initiatives such as clean water, safe food, and vaccinations. When Public Health does its job well, people are protected, and transmission of disease is prevented and controlled. NET Health was created by Smith County and the City of Tyler to serve this vital Public Health role. NET Health was established by Smith County and the City of Tyler to serve area residents and provide vital Public Health services. Both entities committed to fund NET Health as part of the Cooperative Agreement made possible through Texas' Health and Safety Code.

Salmon is a popular protein that is ordered at many restaurants, and a side order that nobody ever wants to order is Salmonella, a bacteria that is spread by eating contaminated foods, drinking contaminated water, and/or having hand-to-mouth contact with the stool (f***s) of an infected person or animal.

You are more likely to get salmonellosis if you eat raw or undercooked dairy products, if you handle pets or livestock or clean their living areas, and/or if you work in a child daycare facility.

The best methods of prevention against Salmonella are to:

** Thoroughly wash and dry your hands when possible,
** Avoid raw milk or raw milk products.
** Avoid drinking water from ponds, lakes, rivers, or swimming pools.
** Storing uneaten food at safe temperatures and cooking leftovers to a safe temperature

Learn more ways to prevent and to limit possible exposure to Salmonella by visiting https://www.dshs.texas.gov/foodborne-illness/salmonellosis-salmonella-infection.

These statistics are alarming but true. According to the CDC:

• 8.7 million people in the U.S. are living with undiagnosed diabetes.
• Approximately 80% of people with prediabetes are unaware they have it.

Unmanaged diabetes can cause serious health concerns. We’re expanding our health offerings this Red Cross Month with free A1C testing for all who successfully give blood through March. 31 (one test result per donor in a 12-month period). Gain valuable information about your blood sugar levels over the past three months by making an appointment to donate blood: https://rdcrss.org/4aSCrnG
