As part of National Rural Health Day, St. Michael's Hospital Avera today announced it has earned a 2025 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Quality. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards program recognizes top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes, and/or Patient Perspective.

Our teams deliver exceptional, quality patient care, and their commitment and compassion to their work is evident in their work every day” said Ashli Danilko, CEO of St. Michael’s Hospital Avera

The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing. INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

Socks are the most requested item in the winter for those less fortunate. Providing clean new socks helps prevent foot-related health complications.

Socks were collected last month by the St. Michael’s Hospital wound center. They were able to collect over 60 pair and donated them to the Pathways Shelter for the homeless in Yankton, SD.
