Sometimes as I’m working around the barn, I’m busy paying very close attention to making sure everyone is cared for, they have what they need, and all have enough of what they need. In between shoveling, filling troughs, and feeding, I sometimes notice myself quietly taking for granted the one that doesn’t require as much specialized care. In this herd, it’s Dream. During the busiest of times, I realize that I have overly relied on her being okay. Yesterday, however was different. We truly saw each other. I was able to “be with” in a way that felt luxurious, quieting, and needed. I can’t speak for her but I watched her head drop, her eyes soften and sensed her settle in. This morning when I came out I noticed her looking at me differently. She was waiting and looking at me in an old familiar way. It felt like a welcome back.
