Baking with Leigh – Series One: Financiers
Coco's Cafe at The Trillium was filled with the aroma of warm butter and toasted almonds as we kicked off our Baking with Leigh series!
This week’s feature: Financiers — classic French pastries known for their rich flavor and delicate texture. From measuring and mixing to tasting the final result, every step was shared with joy.
There’s nothing sweeter than creating something beautiful together. 💛

Today, our History Club had the pleasure of hosting an engaging presentation on What Life Was Like in Fairfax County During the American Civil War, featuring guest speaker Jim Lewis.

Residents were captivated as we explored how families in Fairfax County lived during the time of the American Civil War — from the impact of troop movements to the realities of daily life in a region deeply affected by the conflict. The discussion sparked thoughtful questions, meaningful dialogue, and a deeper appreciation for the rich history right here in our own community.

Thank you to Jim Lewis for bringing history to life and to our residents for making lifelong learning such a vibrant part of life at The Trillium.

🌸 Moments in Bloom in Memory Care 🌸
Today, our Memory Care residents created beautiful floral centerpiece arrangements — and while the flowers were stunning, the true magic was in the process.
Engaging in hands-on activities like floral design supports individuals living with dementia in meaningful ways:
✨ Encourages fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination
✨ Stimulates the senses through color, texture, and fragrance
✨ Promotes focus and sequencing
✨ Invites conversation, connection, and reminiscence
✨ Fosters purpose and accomplishment
For individuals living with cognitive change, familiar and creative tasks can spark long-term memories, reduce anxiety, and build confidence. Something as simple as arranging flowers can bring calm, joy, and a renewed sense of identity.
Because in Memory Care, every activity is intentional — designed not just to fill time, but to enrich lives. 🌿

🎨📚 We had a wonderful Art History class exploring art, culture, and the stories behind the world’s most compelling works. The discussion brought history to life as we examined iconic pieces 🖼️, learned about the artists behind them 👩‍🎨👨‍🎨, and uncovered how art reflects the time, place, and people that shaped it 🌍✨.
