POSITION:
The Director of Staff Development is to plan, implement, direct and evaluate the educational program of all personnel in the facility based on identified resident needs, staff needs, and County, State and Federal laws and regulations, as applicable. In a facility based nurse aide training and competency evaluation program, the Director of Staff Development is under the general supervision of a registered nurse and reports to and is responsible for the program to the Director of Nursing.
REPORTING:
This position is responsible to the Administrator and Director of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: AA Degree or better
License: Current, active RN/LVN license

Work Experience: 1 year of full-time experience as a licensed nurse in providing direct nursing care in a long term care facility, in addition to one year experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of nursing, or

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and completes nutritional screens on our residents.
REPORTING: This position reports to the Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School graduate or equivalent
License: Completion of Certified Dietary Manager certificate through Association of Nutrition Professionals and completion of the California State Title 22 six hour course (if in CA) –OR– current Federal regulatory license requirement for skilled post-acute care. Active Servsafe Certification or equivalent 5-year food safety certification.

Supervise preparation of food and service of residents’ meals and nourishments in accordance with recipes and posted menus for both regular, modified and therapeutic diets

Prepare menus and plan modifications as required by diet order, in consultation with the Registered Dietitian

Oversee that food is prepared by methods that conserve nutritive value and flavor

Ensure food served is palatable, attractive and in a form to meet the individual needs of the residents

Ensure food is served at proper temperature by checking that temperature of hot/cold foods are recorded and served according to procedure

Ensure substitute food of similar nutritive value is provided to residents who refuse foods

Maintain accurate records and tray tickets for all residents

Post dated menus at least one week in advance and promptly correct menus if content is altered

Set the budget for the dietary department. Purchase food and supplies within budgetary guidelines. Maintain budget and cost records

Prepare monthly spend-down report to Administrator § Receive and check deliveries and orders for accuracy

Oversee and ensure that all food items are correctly stored, including rotation of supplies, labeling and dating

Ensure cold foods are stored at proper temperature by checking and recording temperature of freezer and refrigerator according to procedure

Ensure dietary food, supplies and equipment is secured from theft and/or loss

Prepare cleaning schedule and oversee that proper levels of cleanliness and sanitation within the department

Maintain required Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

Plan and conduct staff meetings and in-service education programs on dietary policies and procedures

Provide instruction, supervision, counseling and written evaluations to dietary employees
